NFL Combine: Scott Pioli Part 4
From Indianapolis, Indiana
Heard enough from Chiefs GM Scott Pioli? I doubt it. Given his penchant for staying off the nightly news and out of the headlines, we need to make sure everyone tastes whatever he has to offer, whenver he offers something.
So here comes the fourth of four parts of Pioli talking about various subjects.

Pioli wants smart players and those who, if they can compete, to do so. And if they choose not to compete when able, they get a question mark or something next to their candidacy. Got it.
I would be interested in knowing what Pioli considers ’smart’ for players? Score from the Wonderlic? Football, go the the chalkboard, smart? Interviewing skills smart? Showing up on film/being able to execute assignments smart? All the above?
Then the competitive question surfaces. Busting it on every drill? Always hustling? Intangibles? I’m starting to put together a list of those top players in this draft that seem to meet the criteria voiced by Pioli. It won’t take long to call the roll with this class.
After this draft, all of us will get a better feel of how Pioli sees the football world. The 09 draft was a bit of a mystery. Just how pieces fit and what the final picture will look like. Pioli has tried to be “unkown person of importance” with the Chiefs. Sort of like, if you keep your trap shut, no one will know what you do not know. That will change after this draft. No blaming time or other on who gets sellected, Pioli front and center. Relax and watch and learn.
