“Can’t Have Two Roosters In The Hen House”

From the Truman Sports Complex

Leave it to Larry Johnson to put into perspective what  happened with Chan Gailey’s dismissal as the Chiefs offensive coordinator by head coach Todd Haley.

“You can’t have two roosters in the hen house,” Johnson said. “It’s common sense that two guys who have been successful in this league would eventually have a disagreement … they are two successful guys who want things to go there way and sooner or later, somebody was going to have to bow out of the race.

“There are not too many offensive coordinators who are willing to change what they do. It’s understandable why he (Haley) would make that decision.”

So the move did not come as a surprise to Johnson? Less so than the decision by Haley to keep Gailey in the first place.

“When Todd came, I thought Chan was going to have to find somewhere else,” said Johnson. “What I heard was that Todd liked to take control and do things his way.”

Although last year was not a good one for Johnson, he thinks Gailey did a good  job in 2008 of making the offense go given the circumstances.

“It was tough last year; we went through three different quarterbacks and we had the change almost the whole offense to fit the quarterback’s strengths and gifts, ” said Johnson. “He (Gailey) did well, considering he had to mix and match and change so many things. “

Another rookie mistake by the rookie Head Coach – in over his head just as Rin has said he’d prove to be. 0-3…team in shambles…the put all your eggs in one basket $63 mill man out for only Rin knows how long ( and God ain’t saying…)

I think the next one to consider is Prendergast. He’s using the same play calling that cost Arizona the Super Bowl, In explanation, 3d and 5 and you have corner backs a 10+ yards cushion from the wide receivers? That’s nuts!

As JC Pierson said, “Give any QB that kind of room they’ll pick you apart and march down the field all day. That’s exactly what Seattle did to us. Jackson did it last week. You have to break up the timing! It’s tough getting sacks when receivers have no one near them!

Tony Gonzalez was almost always mugged at the line of scrimmage. That showed how magnificent he was in spite of it.

Don’t know about firing Pendergrast just yet, but I can say this was a surprise to me. Hopefully Haley’s up for the challenge of multi tasking. The defense has been playing well enough this preseason for us to win. Whereas the offense has struggled alot. Its not all on Gailey, but he does have to somethings to get the offense going. Either way I think Haley has a good enough coaching staff to do this short term. Long term he needs to find a coordinator he trust to do the job calling the plays long term. Otherwise he’s going to burn himself out.
