Lamar & Military Honored On Sunday

It will be a day of honor at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday when the Chiefs host the Chargers.

First, both teams will honor their history by wearing throwback uniforms. The Chiefs will be in replica uniforms of the 1962 Dallas Texans, while the Chargers will be wearing the uniforms of the early San Diego teams.

In pre-game ceremonies, the late Lamar Hunt will be celebrated with ceremonies honoring the designation of a stretch of I-435 as the Lamar Hunt Memorial Highway. Signs will be erected northbound near the Stadium Drive/Raytown Road exit, and southbound near the 48th Street and Worlds of Fun exit. Various polilticos will be on the field along with members of the Hunt family.

Also in ceremonies before the game, the military will be honored, including a flyover by four helicopters from the Assault Helicopter Battalion out of Fort Riley, Kansas. Serving as honor captain for the pre-game coin toss will be Major General Donald Campbell. He is currently the Commanding General of the U.S. Army Recruiting Command and is a graduate of Kansas State.

At half-time, members of the military will unfurl a giant flag and there will be a flyover from four T-6A airplanes from Vance Air Force Base. Also, about 40 men and women will be inducted into the U.S. Army during half-time.

There will be 1,200 military personnel and family members attending the game courtesy of the Chiefs and some of their sponsors and suite holders. They will come from Ft. Leonard Wood and Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri; Ft. Riley, Ft. Leavenworth and Forbes Field in Kansas; Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska and members of the Missouri and Kansas National Guards, VFW and U.S. Army recruiters.
