Victory Day For Chiefs In D.C.

From FedEx Field

On a chilly, wet and windy afternoon in the Washington D.C. suburbs the Chiefs celebrated one of their more memorable moments in recent franchise history.

It wasn’t so much what happened during their game with the Redskins. In many ways it was a very pedestrian contest with only a few highlights; not surprising since a touchdown was not scored all afternoon by either team. The point maker was rookie kicker Ryan Succop (above).

It was about how the lights on the scoreboard were arranged after all the work was done. The outcome was a victory, the first of the Pioli/Haley Era. After six games, the Chiefs finally found the winning combination and beat the struggling Redskins 14-6.

It was a defensive battle that made both offenses look pretty lame at times. The Chiefs had many of their same problems that helped them go 0-5 for the season. The pass protection for QB Matt Cassel was spotty at best. RB Larry Johnson had his best rushing day of the season, but still he hasn’t cracked anything higher than 83 yards. The defense gave up several big plays, but did well with the bend but don’t break style.

So much to write and talk about after this one. Here’s what we’ve got:

Great day to be at the game. Walking out of Arrowhead after a win is a good feeling, but walking out of an opposing team’s stadium after a win is even better. Gotta admit, most Redskin fans were classy, before, during and after the game.

Been gone from this site for awhile, had to back track to see what cleaned it up. October 1st seemed to be the Mendoza line, after that you had better have something to say, or be quiet.
San Diego plays tonight, travels east later this week, through my rose colored glasses, they can be had. Tall order perhaps, but possible. Questionable coaching on Chargers side, questionalbe charactors on defense, we get a few turnovers, why not?

    The new era begins!!
Happy for Hailey, it was funny when he got the gatorade bath, he tried to look all mad at first, then he could not help but smile. Might have been ugly but right now, I will take them however they come.

Whatever happened to Rin Tin Tin – I used to like to read his rants

I think maybe Rin got bounced from the site! I agree his posts were always interesting (maybe not too productive, but defintitely interesting). I think he made us all dig down deep as far as our loyalty to the team. No one liked the long dry losing streak we endured, but I look forward to better days. I was listening to NFL radio on Sirius today and a caller reminded everone how just a few years ago Vikings and Saints fans were just where we are today. I look forward to a few years down the road when the wins come a lot easier and more frequent!
