Final Underclassmen Draft List

On Monday, the NFL released the approved list of college underclassmen who will be available for the April 2009 Draft.

There are 46 names on the list, one of the smallest totals in the last five years.

Juniors and sophomore-red shirts had until January 15th to apply for entrance into the draft. Then, they had until Midnight Sunday to pull their name out of the draft if they had not hired an agent.

Several players apparently did that, because some of the players who were on the initial list are not on the approved group by the league. WR Brandon LaFell at LSU changed his mind and decided to return to school.

Here are the numbers over this decade of players who declared for the draft and the number of underclassmen who were selected:

    Bob,

Who’s representing the Chiefs at the Senior Bowl? Are Herm and/or Pioli there? I’m assuming no – and that seems like a negative to me. This seems like a simple matter to report, but I haven’t seen anything on it yet.

    Thanks.

  • January 19, 2009  - tm1946 says:

Maybe Pioli is still evaluating herm. He has not replaced the two coaches that have moved on,yet. Maybe the chiefs will not have a coach at the Sr. Bowl.

Well…this is not news that I wanted to see. Apparently Chan may be interviewing with the Bucs.

Jake, I was listening to Neal Jones on 610 Sports Radio today and he had Adam Teicher from the Kansas City Star on the phone down in Mobile and he said that there weren’t very many Chiefs guys down there. He didn’t say if herm or pioli was there or not though.

Raiders interested in Todd Haley…great! Kiss of death!

Scratch him off the list of “nextest Chiefs Head Coach.” Yet another arbitrary name suggested the name KC Chiefs Coach elimination tournament gone the way of the Edsel.

Meanwhile back at the ranch/One Arrowhead Drive, our man Herm proceeds with his plans to rebuild the Chiefs in 2009. Yup, Herm’s The Man alright!

    heh heh heh

  • January 19, 2009  - Aaron says:

Do you think Todd Haley is a bad coach or something Rin? I don’t follow the logic of how an offensive coach who just got his team to the super bowl would be the kiss of death for the Raiders. I think hes made great use of his talent in Arizona. Especially of finding ways to get Fitzgerald the ball (”pick” plays over the middle or how about that flea flicker?) I’d love to hear your logic and reasoning for why Haley would be bad for the Raiders.

  • January 19, 2009  - Johnfromfairfax says:

Rin’s referring to Herm. He’s got it bad for him and is ticking off those anointed as coaches in waiting for KC. Haley was the latest mentioned and Rin was checking him off the list of possible Herm replacements if the Raiders are after him. I can’t help but think either it’s decided that Herm is the man or there’s already an alternative plan in place. If The offensive coaches start jumping it would support the theory Herm is in trouble since it wouldn’t make sense that he would be retained and bring in all new coaches. That would seem particularly true on the offensive side of the ball since that’s the only area we had even a kernel of success this past season and Chan Gailey was responsible for the little improvement we saw. I also can’t see any head coach being retained , or agreeing to stay, under conditions where his entire staff is let go or allowed to go elsewhere. Perhaps Al hires Haley and we trade Herm and the rights to Marcus Allen and Chester McGlockton for Haley. Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks Rin!

Herms staying guys so get over it…lol…I know it’s a helluva pill 2 swallow but he is, which in return is great for us! Next year he will lead us 2 a winning record and also the playoffs. I look forward 2 reading every1s blog next year saying that Pioli built this team and that he should win the executive of the year award hands down b/c he was able 2 build a winnig team n 1 year.(lol) Last time I checked all a gm does was supply a “coach” with the proper players 2 win ball games, they dont make decision that determine the outcome of the game! So now that Herm has a gm that truly supports his rebuilding decision n Pioli, sky is the limit for our young chiefs! Oh yeah, Herm will get a fat extension after 2009 so Herm haters strap your seat belts on gonna be a helluva ride! lol

Don’t talk to or about Rin. It only gives his autistic mind more to obsess over.

  • January 19, 2009  - Anonymous says:

Ye of little faith! The CHIEFS shall rise as the greatest team in the AFC WEST. Give Herm his due, he came in to do what needed to be done, and the great mind of Pioli sees that. The Raiders will keep sucking. The chargers are getting to old, and the DONKEYS we’ll win a couple of games to get their fans exicted and blow it. Kind of reminds you of the (maxi pad) days!! Keep believing in the mighty red and gold IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. (SUPERBOWL ???)

    Aaron -

See Johnfromfairfax, he saved me from having to use more scarce resources both hard & soft wood as well sawdust in answering your query. A fine job jfff (peanut butter?)

OK, Todd’s crossed off the list, so who’s left?

    - Rex Ryan? Nope. Check him off.

    - Paul Pasqualoni? Gimme a cheesestake wit!

    - Ara Parseghian? When Irish eyes are smilin’…

    - Lou Saban? Maybe.

    - Torey Southwick & Gus? Also a 2fer possibility.

Stay tuned Chiefs fans…same bat time, same bat channel!

  • January 20, 2009  - MenInRed says:

If Herm isn’t at the Sr Bowl, then thats the writing on the wall.
All teams have at least one of the following:
    “HC, GM or OC/DC”
there at the Sr Bowl let alone scouts, except maybe the two SB teams.

  • January 20, 2009  - True Red & Gold says:

I would be very surprised (I will bet my left nut) if Herm is not at the Senior Bowl. In fact I think he would go even if he didn’t have a job right now. He is a workaholic and the Senior Bowl is one of his favorite events.

Just think, all of the Herm haters where hooping it up when Pioli was hired and if Pioli retains Herm then that means that he sees something in Herm that they don’t. Of course they already have their excuses ready just in case that does happen. I still say it is too early to tell but you might want to start warming up those excuses guys, just in case.

  • January 20, 2009  - tm1946 says:

From hater to hermite, the Sr Bowl is over run with unemployed coaches, remember Greg Robinson and Al Saunders, so herm is always welcome there. If herm stays I believe it will be a stop gap or finishing of his contract. Do not need any excuses for a 2-14 coach, sorry to disappoint.

  • January 20, 2009  - Rin Tin Tin says:

“If Herm stays”…”yeah but he’ll only be”…and Rin’s personal favorite, “Scottie’s just waiting until”… well, the 12th of never – obviously.

Time Check: 11:35 a.m. CST, Tuesday, January 20, 2009…and yup, Herm’s STILL The Man!

As I think about you may be correct, so…..he is gone (at least three of his coaches are gone).
