OPENING DAY FALLS SHORT FOR CHIEFS

AP PHOTO

From Arrowhead Stadium
There were all the elements of a great opening day at Arrowhead Stadium.

The red and gold balloons that are traditionally released before kickoff went flying into the air. There was an Air Force flyover. There was a large crowd. And there were the Raiders visiting from Oakland.

What wasn’t there was a Chiefs team ready to win. Shooting themselves in the foot with mistake after mistake, especially on offense, the team that so desperately needs a victory came up short. The Raiders left with their third consecutive victory at Arrowhead, 13-10.

The stat sheet landed in the Chiefs favor, but the scoreboard is all that matters. They stifled the Raiders offense all day, until late in the fourth quarter when QB JaMarcus Russell led his team to the winning touchdown by RB Darren McFadden.

There’s a lot to cover and here what we have:

Rin said afore today’s game it was the only one they had a chance to win until December …they failed.

There is now but 1 game left on the Chiefs 16 game schedule they have ANY chance of winning – CLEV on 12/20 – alas, Christmas this year in KC will be as another lump of stocking…

    0-16 nee 0-20 draws nigh!

Bob, in your coverage of the Chiefs, you forgot to mention that as of two regular season game T. Jackson has one, that is correct folks, one tackle. A first round pick that fits right in with many other Chiefs first picks. Just a kid, certainly not worthy of a first rounder. But call me bitter since I do not expect a win in October of 09

One last comment on the game, Did it look to anyone else that onside kick was not one, rather the kicker miss kicked the ball? It may have been the most hidded play or just a botched kick. Anyone notice it?

  • September 20, 2009  - Harold C. says:

Well….I’m unhappy with what happened in this game….the stupid decisions and mistakes killed us…..but I am so much happier that I don’t have to read all of RIN’s idiotic comments and gloating. WOOHOO……it’s great not reading RIN!!!

We all knew in our hearts that this year would be a tough year. This year is a stepping stone to better times ahead. Hold on Chiefs fans (obviously I am not talking to RIN). Better times are coming.

what part of blogging don’t you understand? You are COMMENTING on a blog – this site is not about you or your opinions, rather it is bob gretz’s blog and IS about his opinions. YOU NEED YOUR OWN SITE TO BE BLOGGING – how do you think that would work out for you rin? Get much traffic ya think? How can your egocentric azz allow you to believe that which is so obviously wrong? Not only wrong, but self absorbed as hell….

    The Chiefs let us down,
Our hearts are a little low,
Our Chiefs are not good enough yet,
They have a ways to go.

    Some dumb mistakes were made,
They could have won this game,
To lose to the Raiders is disgusting,
Yet there were encouraging signs all the same.

So yes we are all sick,
    Very bitter is this cup,
But HEY….I don’t have to read RIN,
    SO things are looking up!!!

Cassel 1st game as a chief , with a whole lot of new player’s , this is not like pratice , it’s a real game with fans — tv and REAL opponents .
Even Alanta-Detriot-to name just a couple had formations of team’s there before new QB’s .
Let downs ? Cry BABIES ? WINNERS !
It’s easy to hit these key’s than have a wait and see .
This is a whole new team and I think the coach is doing all he can and more to find the right pegs for the right holes , in short order !

I agree Jim…..I think our future looks promising. It was hard to see some of those mistakes….but they will improve. This is just the beginning.

Ummmm….I don’t really know because I don’t read Rin…..and believe me…..it’s wonderful not reading Rin. I don’t usually read Whitlock either…..because I can’t stand the guy’s attitude. I think he is as authentic as pro-wrestling. I did read the article you linked to and believe me…..judging from the few things I tried to read of Rin’s and the few things I have read of Whitlock’s……… I would rather read Whitlock’s gibberish than Rin’s…..any day.

  • September 21, 2009  - arrowhead1978 says:

LOL… I agree with whitlock, he was chewing the players out coming to the sideline… Haley couldn’t have taught Cassell not to use so many timeouts in the first half of the game, before the game started. I still can’t believe that Cassell wouldn’t stand in the pocket and throw the ball downfield, instead he kept pulling the ball down and running. They could have paid Thigpen 60 million to do that and he is a better runner…

Nobody knows for sure if Haley will ever be a winning coach, he could be a big flop. If you feel better by posting that stuff knock yourself out but I will have to see a whole lot more before I will believe it.

I wander how long before we start hearing that Jackson is a flop, it didn’t take very long last year to hear that about Dorsey. Dorsey by the way had a pretty good game.

If you don’t understand how the 3-4 works, then it would seem that way I guess, but the 3-4 DE isn’t trying to rush the passer so much as he’s trying to tie up the O linemen so that the LBers can get in to sack the QB.
Obviously, if T-Jack could get his hands on Fatmarcus or whoever the QB is, then he’d throw them down like a rag-doll.

    - more so a boulder Sisyphus keeps trying to scream to the top only to see it come crashing back down and crush him weekly…x6 to date.

    “I wander how long”

    - 14 more times in 2009; you keep wandering, Rin wonders no more – is a fraud who will be fired no later than 2010…

  • September 21, 2009  - MDChief says:

Is anyone else struck by Cassell’s description of the play ending the first half? He talks about it as a check-down route (”we were trying to position for a field goal”. He STILL doesn’t seem to get the fact that on the 10 yeard line, if you’re calling another play, it HAS to be in the end zone. If you don’t throw it in the end zone, you throw it into the first row and kick the chip shot. Wow, I hope this is a sign of lack of media presence and not lack of football savy.

I don’t know who should be more insulted, Rin or Witless, for your comparison. Both spout complete nonsense without a shred of objectivity.

Reading either is a complete waste of your time. I suggest avoiding both

As for the real topic at hand (the KC Chiefs), I’m going back and forth on how to feel about the game. On one hand, we dominated almost every phase of the game (usually a good thing). On the other hand, we still managed to lose despite dominating (very scary).

  • September 21, 2009  - Rin Tin Tin says:

Time for the ‘winners’ to take a bow: THE RADUHS! & all who picked them to win – Rin Tin Tin, Marty S, Gannon & KC Star’s Adam Teicher & Randy Covitz.

The losers – the chiefs, 99+% all bloggers herein and KC Star’s Jason Whitlock, Kent Babb and Holly Lawton.

Rin is now a PERFECT 6-0 on the season, while the chiefs (they have to wear a lower-case ‘c’ until manages to win a game) are now 0-6…

    daddy-o

Ah, but you have wrongly accused nee’ incorrectly guessed my identity.

‘Tis not Jason Whitlock behind my lacy, pink curtains! Whitlock would never dream to make use of the fruity and limp-wristed language of Rin’s blogs, the type of flowery and light-in-the-loafers monologues found therein!

Howe’er, I most certainly would love to spend a romantic evening with said Whitlock, as both he and Rin are haters of the Kansas City chiefs.

Call me, Jason, for I would make sweet man-love to you ’til the golden sun rises o’er our bed!

  • September 21, 2009  - ED says:

Good to hear today Dorsey learns you have to play 60 minutes of football not 58 minutes. Hopefully now the rest of the team has learn that also. This Sunday against the Eagles Cassell must take care of the football. Bottom line his rust allowed him to throw 2 picks in Oakland territory. That cost the team points. Then toward the end of the game the defense took their foot off the gas thinking Russell was going to just hand it over to them. Big mistake. Two important things must be learned from this loss other than the obvious take care of the ball and playing hard for 60 minutes on both offense, defense and special teams regardless of the score.

Aaaaaaaand yet ANOTHER Herm Edwards Chief signs elsewhere: DE Alphonso Boone to the Chargers!

Gonzalez, Babin, McBride & Boone in tow with both Pollard & McIntosh next.

On the other side of the coin none/zero among the 19 hand-picked & signees that they then released have been wanted by ANY these other NFL teams because they as ’search’ & ‘check’ are GARBAGE…

    heh heh heh!

sooo….3/30…would be 10 percent of herm’s players get signed elsewhere

PATHETIC, considering 13 of those are draft picks not with the team…of 26 of course, that would be half, and 2 didnt play

KC has lost 2 games, the fact is herm won 2…but he got to play 16 games…thats 14 losses, so if kc goes 2-12, then he did not improve the chiefs…far too early…FAR too early

any 22? not sure why you keep quoting something that WASNT A FREAKING QUOTE…HEARSAY…this is the equiv of me saying I heard Cassel say that Bowe sucks…so therefore, he said it!

  • September 22, 2009  - Anonymous says:

and to be honest, you cant say the guy didnt live up to this quote, or any of the others because….ITS WEEK 3 you idiot rin

you waste your time on here, no one cares what you think or say…its sad that no matter how many holes you have in your “jabs” you consider to use the same lame material…

for your sake, get a life kid.

  • September 22, 2009  - Rin Tin Tin says:

They plead Rin let them go nee be while they plead to not care what He thinks … they do this daily, faithfully, and religiously too!

  • September 22, 2009  - SG says:

You know? I read the Whitlock article, and I disagree with him on one key point…the Chiefs didn’t lose to the worst team in football. The Chiefs might well BE the worst team in the NFL right now.

Whitlock’s nonsense about the pickup of Wade being a wakeup call to Bowe and Bradley is silly. The WR’s on the team are not exactly top quality. Wade came in and got the job done. He caught the passes, did decent returning punts. He did his job, which he was qualified to do. You have to have qualified employees in order to succeed…

D-Dog, I’m still calling you out on this one big guy, because the Right 53 starts with the Right 22. If those 22 guys stink worse than my armpits after working in a dumpster for 16 hours straight (no deodorant) – then it will be adequately supplemented by the other 31 guys to right the ship.

  • September 22, 2009  - SG says:

And I don’t wear any deodorant. Never have. Never will. I stink like those 22 guys at the far end of the roster.
