Practice Report 11/24 Update

From the Truman Sports Complex

The Chiefs are a bruised and sore team just two days removed from their victory over Pittsburgh, but there were only two players not taking part in the team’s Tuesday morning practice.

“We moved around pretty good; I felt like we made progress,” Todd Haley said of the session. “There was good energy from the guys and we got off to a good start,  which we’ll need against this team (San Diego).”

Haley changed the team’s schedule this week, moving the players normal day off from Tuesday to Thanksgiving Day. Thus, Tuesday was like a Wednesday around the Chiefs facility.

The team is not required to give a practice participation report until Wednesday under league rules and Haley was unwilling to provide that  information a day early. But DB Maurice Leggett (shoulder) and LB Justin Rogers (thigh) were the only players not taking part in the session.

Leggett was not on the field at all, while Rogers was working in the rehab area.

A host of other Chiefs are hurting, but they took part in practice, athough their participation appeared to be limited. OLB Mike Vrabel was back working with the linebackers, although Andy Studebaker was working with the No. 1 defense.  Same with G Andy Alleman, who was back with the offensive line, but Wade Smith was taking the early snaps at right guard with the first-team offense.

RB Kolby Smith (ankle), RB Dantrell Savage (ankle), WR Chris Chambers (ribs) and LB David Herron (knee) were all practicing, but at what level they were  participating is unknown.

Haley had the team working outside, despite the chilly, windy and wet conditions.

I bet Leggett ends up on IR. It looked like he was in a lot of pain when he got hurt Sunday.

I hope Vrabel being back doesn’t take too much time away from Studebaker…who played a great game Sunday. Besides, I thought Vrabel was supposed to be out for 3-5 weeks? I guess nothing is a better motivator to a speedy recovery than watching your back-up kick some ass on the field.

Ok, if you are planning to watch the Chiefs-Chargers game on Sunday, keep this in mind. Tomlinson needs 26 rush yards to pass Marcus Allen, 62 to pass Marshall Faulk, and 93 to pass Jim Brown. 93 would put him 8th place all time in rushing yards. Hopefully, Marcus will be at the game. I love the Chiefs, but LT is special and I hope Marcus, Marshall, and JB are all there to cheer him on.

Colby, Colby, Colby. As much as I dislike the Chargers (Rivers and Merriman in particular)…LT has been a great back and a class act. So I agree on that. But, I hope we stop him ice cold. Or maybe pass Marcus at most. Because if LT has a good game…it will likely mean that we are losing. He’ll pass all those guys…I just don’t want it to be against us.

I hope we redeem ourselves for the butt whoopin’ the Chargers put on us at Arrowhead…by returning the favor.

leggett is so ridiculously gone from this team..Pro Rapper is what he is, hes lost focus…IR indeed, question becomes will washington see some playing time…

funny how people ONLY give credit to the contributions of herm picks, when…pioli and co have had very little time, and found long/chambers/pope/cassel on that offense..Magee has been tearing it up on D, Belcher has looked very good at times…face it, Pioli and Haley know what they’re doing…takes time to become a good head coach, haley is better every day.

    3rd down RB #89 Sean Ryan —6′ 5″ 260 lbs

I hope LT’s record doesnt just add fire to a team that is burning hot already

alex k states a good point, and I TOTALLY agree,

I just think people are going too high up the ladder..we are only a 3 win team and we will look like it again…it will happen…and people will start bitching again…just remember its a PROCESS and it will still take time..

but nevertheless, being at the game sunday was the most fun I have had a Arrowhead in years…LOVED IT!!

whoever says magee has been tearing it up on D has not read his stats

    10 games 0 starts. 5 tackles 1 assist 2 sacks

yeah two sacks is great for a chiefs team, but for someone that is teearing it up, he’d have to have some TFL, passes defended, QB pressures, i just don’t see that.

We need to sign the sickest DL coach, I don’t know who’s the bomb, maybe get warren sapp on the coaching staff teaching our DL.

I hope the browns game comes down to the end because when i go to games with my step dad, we always leave early to beat traffic.

when i go to the games with my step dad

I hope LT runs for negative yards. I don’t want him getting his records at our expense….period.

anyone see B. Pollard mouthing off on Monday night. He made some nice plays to, but he was also on a defense that gave up 200 yards rushing.

I liked him a lot up until last night. Seeing him mouthing off with VY long after the play, shows me some of the reasons he probably was let go.

It looked unfocused, and lacked discipline. The anti of what Haley is preaching. Just shut up and play, if you have a problem go hit him in the mouth on the next play between the lines, anybody can just jaw off.

Not sure if anyone else is keeping tabs on this, but I’m enjoying the Falcons skid. This means our 2nd round pick for Tony G. is getting better and better with each Falcon loss.

    Behind Enemy Lines :
    Thats not all ….
KC got rid of LJ & B. Pollard (bad fit here), they have been doing better with a want to win AND play together team !!
Alanta is NOT doing good enough to be able to win their Div. because they HAVE to face Drew Brees in order to see ANY play-offs …….Sorry , but KC only has to get past San Deigo ,lots easer than D.B.

  • November 24, 2009  - ThunderChief says:

Ask yourself how much difference is there between an injured vs a typical player in the league? Then ask yourself the difference between a ‘next man up’ player vs a typical player.

The point: Leggett has flashed a couple of times over the past couple of years but not unreplaceable.

If we’re talking about a KEY player or STUD, it’s a different deal. So far, as I see it, we’re not. Are we clear?

  • November 24, 2009  - Hawaiianchief says:

    if you really want to see how individual players are doing and actually grading out, check out profootballfocus.com;

It is an independent website that breaks down film, and gives individual grades to players and show exactly how much plays each player gets, and where we did the best running and passing. For example Dorsey played 71 snaps last game more than any other lineman. B.Flowers, Carr, Brown, Mcgraw all played every snap of the game for a whopping 83 plays ( that is a lot if you don’t know)

    Pretty interesting stuff.

I agree Harold. To heck with LT, I hope we shut him down completely! I want the Chiefs to send him crying home to mama.

Mcgraw is playing better than Pollard did for the Chiefs. I don’t miss his missed tackles or blown assignments one iota.

  • November 24, 2009  - colby says:

Trust me, I don’t WANT to see LT pass all three of those guys, but I will say that he is a class act on a team that features two douche bags in Rivers and Merriman. He’ll be extra motivated on Sunday so I hope Haley realizes what LT is on the cusp of and lets our guys know that LT may be in rare form.

If we IR Leggett, I have a guess who we may sign to replace him. Brian Russell. The Jags cut him a week or so ago. Russell played S for the Vikings when Haley was WRs coach with the Bears, then moved on and started three years with Seattle when Haley was the OC at Arizona. This year has been Russell’s first year (to my knowledge) on the bench. He’s a guy Haley has faced twice a year for 5 plus seasons and we could use some help at safety since they obviously have no faith in Morgan. Just a guess on my part.

I hope they put L.T. on his ass to stay. Who cares about him here in Chief City?????

  • November 24, 2009  - Jody says:

McGraw is not playing better than any safety KC has had except maybe Brown, take off the homer glasses.

  • November 24, 2009  - mr neeto says:

yeah lt is good so what let him break his records against some other team next week if you want lt to break marcus allens record against the chiefs your not much of a chiefs fan anyway colby dont be a puss

  • November 24, 2009  - alex k says:

hey moron, magee plays ONLY on certain 3rd downs, and has provided more pass rush than anyone on the DL outside of MAYBE Gilberry…so to be honest, you are the blind one, and you sir are the moron.

  • November 24, 2009  - alex k says:

I love how funny it is to watch people complain about a guy with 2 sacks who only plays out of a 2 down lineman 2/4/5 and an occasional 3-4 DE spot…

but yeah, that Magee…he STINKS, you MORON….seriously? do you watch the games or just read the box score? hilarious

  • November 24, 2009  - avon barksdale says:

not even taking into account that all of his serious pressure has come in the past 4-5 weeks…and DL take longer to develop, and look at Tyson Jackson, HECK LOOK AT CHRIS LONG you TOOL, hes a 4-3…sigh..

sometimes, it makes more and more sense to me why some in this fan base are such maroons.

  • November 24, 2009  - Ronny says:

Mcgraw has outplayed Page AND Pollard. Magee has been good, but not as good as Gilberry. I do agree that Magee has done very well for limited time. He has a half dozen pressures as well.

  • November 24, 2009  - alex k says:

with pollard, its best to read what Kent Babb said on twitter…I really think he gives an inside look at why pollard didnt fit… I liked pollard, but I get why he did not fit…See Joe horn, see Leslie Oneal, see Cedric Benson…list goes on and on.

  • November 24, 2009  - Adam says:

Matt Roth was released from the Dolphins. He’d be another great pick up for KC. I’m not sure why he didn’t succeed in Mia. But he’d be a great addition. I remember that guy in college. Un-freaking-blockable. Good Character, Team Leader guy too.

  • November 25, 2009  - el cid says:

What is Roth’s size? MIA says a good player “off the bench” sounds like a backup. MIA def 3-4 or 4-3? Just wondering?
