Practice Report Update 12/16

From the Truman Sports Complex

LG Brian Waters and DE Glenn Dorsey were limited participants in the Chiefs practice on Wednesday.

Both players are coming off injuries they suffered in last Sunday’s game against Buffalo, with Waters dealing with a left hamstring injury and Dorsey a left knee problem. Head coach Todd Haley remained optimistic that both Waters and Dorsey would be available this coming Sunday against Cleveland.

“I’m optimistic … I think they have a chance to play,” said Haley. “We’ll see as the week goes on.”

Also limited in practice on Wednesday were FS Jon McGraw (hand) and DE Wallace Gilberry (back). Again, Haley expets them to be ready to play vs. the Browns.

CB Brandon Flowers who missed practice time last week was a full participant on Wednesday, as the Chiefs worked indoors at their facility. Flowers has battled a sore shoulder all season.

Haley was pleased with what he saw on the practice field from WR Dwayne Bowe, taking part in his first session since serving his four-game NFL suspension.

“Again, it looks like he did a good job while he was away keeping himself in condition,” Haley said of Bowe. “I would have really liked to seen where he and we would have been if he had been here the last four games. He was making so much progress leading up to his suspension. I thought it was important that Dwayne work real hard while he was away. Sometimes that’s hard to do when you are on your own.

“Dwayne was a breath of fresh air out there today. I thought he picked things up pretty fast. He was in here Monday and Tuesday trying to catch up.”

Glad to see Bowe is back. Its no coincidence that Cassell numbers drop without his number 1 target. With the lack of talent at the receving core it was to be expected. I expect Cassell to play much better the last 3 games seeing Bowe is back in the lineup. A quarterback is only as good as the guys blocking and catching for him and Cassell is no different

Bowe & Chambers together on the field should give the Browns defense a real challenge. I think that if the Chiefs are’nt running the ball (which they should) the play action fake will pay high dividends for the offense.
Our #1 & #2 receivers may certainly have a field day with the boys in brown. I would like to have just one game this year, where I am not sitting on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Chiefs 32 Browns 13
    Go Chiefs.

Glad Bowe is back and in shape. He still drops the ball too much but there is no doubt he is our best receiver. The Browns run D sucks though so I am hoping that Haley runs the ball a little more. If Charles is up for another 20 attempts then load him up! Heck, on top of that, I’d let the other backs (Castille, Savage, Williams, one will probably be cut with Bowe back on the roster) combine for another 12 attempts or so. We SHOULD be able to run the ball really well against this team, which should in turn, open up things downfield for Bowe and Chambers.

Pope had a nice game against Buffalo, perhaps he is beginning to come into his own. He looks slow as hell but he is a load to bring down in the open field. I’m not going to pile hate on Lance Long either. Let the Welker comparisons stop. Long is Davonne Bess, the white version. Not exciting, but he doesn’t drop the ball. Cassel needs that out of someone on this team.

Finally, I hope we BLITZ those Browns. I’m not afraid of Quinn and co burning us deep very often so let’s rattle that guy and try and get 4 or 5 sacks somehow!

If we don’t win this one, then we are REALLY freaking pathetic!

Browns will run, run, run. Doubt they will attempt 12 passes all game unless the Chiefs get a double digit lead by half.

Hope Long makes it as a KR or PR. To small for every day slot. If Bowe and Chambers can stretch the field, RBs can catch beyond the LBs. Unfortunately we only have one RB, Charles.

Big question? Can the Chiefs stop the run? Dorsey is nicked, Jackson had 8 tackles last week, Edwards has had a good quiet season but LBs seem doomed to always over run plays and miss their gap assignments.
