Thursday Morning Cup O’Chiefs
With apologies to Agatha Christie, here’s a version of her children’s poem Ten Little Indians.
Call it the 12 Little Chiefs:
Twelve Little Chiefs taken in the draft,
One smoked a toke and eleven were left.
Eleven Little Chiefs, taken in the draft,
One showed up heavy and ten were still left.
Ten Little Chiefs, taken in the draft,
One never got a chance and now nine were left.
Nine Little Chiefs taken in the draft,
One was a tweener and eight are now left.
The Chiefs 2008 NFL Draft class was going to be the foundation for the future of the franchise. It still may be, but its numbers are dwindling as 33 percent of the 12-man group has been sent packing by the Pioli/Haley regime. Michael Merritt, Will Franklin, Kevin Robinson and Brian Johnston (right) are gone.
The newest departure came on Wednesday when Johnston was waived by the Chiefs.
So what does that say about the ‘08 Class?
Nothing really.
An NFL team’s draft is seldom judged by players taken in the sixth or seventh rounds. Certainly a team can help its draft grade by hitting on choices in those later rounds. Only fourth-round choice Franklin was out of that group and only OT Barry Richardson remains on the roster from those late rounds.
Again, there’s nothing unusual about that. Sixth and seventh round picks are generally one or two year players. As an example, the roster the Pittsburgh Steelers used to win the Super Bowl last year had a sixth-round pick from their 2005 Draft (Chris Kemoeatu) and a seventh-round choice from the 2002 Draft (Brett Keisel). That’s one of the teams in the league that builds through the draft, and would be more likely to keep late round picks than other established teams.
What is unusual about some of the departures was this: the new regime did not give Robinson and Johnston a chance to keep their spots on the roster. Johnston got caught in the change in defensive scheme. In the mismash Gunther/Cover Two defense, Johnston had the tools to rush off the edge. In the under 4-3 defense that will be the base for what the Chiefs do this season they want their defensive ends to be bigger, in the area of 290 to 300 pounds. At 6-4, 269, Johnston didn’t qualify.
The new coaching staff must not have felt Johnston had the necessary skills to move to outside linebacker. That decision came despite the fact Johnston has not taken part in the teamwork at the mini-camp or OTA sessions. He’s been part of the rehab squad after suffering a calf injury at mid-season last year.
Robinson missed half of last season recovering from a knee injury. He was drafted for his return ability and he was adequate in that role over the last half of the ‘08 season. Despite the fact the Chiefs do not have an experienced return man on their roster, Robinson was released, before he was given a chance to show what he could do on the field.
Production from Johnston and Robinson would have been icing on the draft cake. But the success or failure of the class will be decided by players like Glenn Dorsey, Branden Albert, Brandon Flowers, Brad Cottam, Jamaal Charles, DaJuan Morgan and Brandon Carr. Right now, five of those seven are likely starters for the Chiefs in 2009.
How they respond to the challenge and the changes around Arrowhead will make or break the 12 Little Indians of the class of 2009.
A HALL OF FAMER BLASTS A FUTURE HALL OF FAMER
Pro football is usually a tight little fraternity, especially among those who have played the quarterback position.
But Frank Tarkenton hasn’t joined the frat when it comes to Brett Favre. The Hall of Famer who played for the Vikings and Giants, had plenty to say about Minnesota’s possible addition of Favre. Speaking with an Atlanta radio station (as reported by the Minneapolis Star-Tribune) here is some of what Tarkenton had to say.
“I think it’s despicable, what he put the Packers through last year was not good,” said Tarkenton. “Here’s an organization that was loyal to him for 17, 18 years, provided stability of organization, provided players. It just wasn’t about Brett Favre. In this day and time, we have glorified the Brett Favre’s of the world so much, they think it’s about them. He goes to New York and bombs. He’s 39 years old. How would you like Ray Nitschke in his last year [playing for] the Vikings, or I retire, and go play for the Packers? I kind of hope it happens, so he can fail.
“He told the Packers ‘I’m retiring.’ They’ve got to move on. They’ve got to go through their off-season plan, their workouts, they go with the other quarterback (Aaron Rodgers), who is a good player, and then (Favre) comes back and says, ‘I think I want to play.’ … You build your team in the off-season. Everybody knows that. It’s about team. It’s not about Brett Favre. So he goes and runs up to the Jets, doesn’t even dress in the locker room with the players. Has a separate facility. Playing quarterback is about the relationships you have with your coaches, with your players, with your trainers, with your managers. How can you do that if you show up on game day and you haven’t put the time in. And now he’s trying to do it again in Minnesota. And if Minnesota bites, God bless them.”
Oh, Tarkenton wasn’t done. He was just warming up.
“I think he has been a great flamboyant quarterback, but he has made more stupid plays than any great quarterback that I’ve ever seen,” Tarkenton said. “Look at his final game in a Packers uniform (the NFC title game in the 2007 season). He blew that game against the Giants. He’s playing against Eli Manning, I love Eli Manning, but he’s still not a great quarterback. He’s not Peyton yet, or Tom Brady. He’s just a guy. And (the Packers) are playing at home, and they’re in a tight situation, they went to overtime and (Favre) throws the interception that allows (the Giants) to come back and win the game.
“He has done that and driven his coaches crazy all of his career.”
THE RIBBON IS CUT ON THE NEW COWBOYS STADIUMS
Some 1,500 people were in Arlington, Texas on Wednesday for the ribbon cutting of the new Jerry World stadium, otherwise to be known as Cowboys Stadium.
Numerous Texas politicos were in attendance as well as dozens of former members of the Cowboys.
Jones also announced the final price tag on the building: $1.15 billion.
The new stadium will host its first even on June 6 with a George Strait concert. Jones hopes it raises the level of his players.
“I have always thought that it was an element of added pressure to be a member of the Cowboys,” said Jones. “It’s about expectations. I expect every player that plays on this field to play above their level. That’s how you are going to stay here. I do have high expectations. You can’t put something up like this and not expect the team to reflect the quality of stadium.”
SIGNINGS & MOVEMENT AROUND THE LEAGUE

SAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY …
Born on May 28, 1970 in Kansas City was S Jason Belser (right). He played nine seasons in the NFL, and the last two were with the Chiefs (2001-02). He appeared in 32 games with eight starts and had an interception.
Born on May 28, 1981 is Oxford, Michigan is one of the newest members of the Chiefs, C Eric Ghiaciuc. He signed as an unrestricted free agent after spending four seasons with Cincinnati.
Let’s hope the Chiefs are done cutting 2008 draft choices, if not for the sake of the team, then for the sake of Bob’s readers!
So another ‘08 draft pick is gone….and our A+ draft is looking more like a C-……………SO?
What did you expect with a big change like the Chiefs are going through? Pioli and Haley are making the Chiefs into THIER baby….and that means getting rid of Herm’s “projects” and starting their own.
Pioli and Haley have been hired to paint a picture. They have been given a used canvas to use…already painted on by Herm and his staff. The painting by Herm and company was incomplete….and looking a little lousy. So now that Pioli and Haley have taken over the painting they want to make it their way….not continue Herm’s….they see the picture they want to paint and Herm’s way just doesn’t fit their style….so they have to start over….paint over the existing unfinished work. That means some things will be lost that Herm did….maybe even some good things. But the Painting will be better for it in the end.
Yes that was my post up above. I did it again.
Come on, Harold…get your sh*t together. Ha!
Just because a player isn’t “right” for this team…doesn’t mean they won’t catch on somewhere else. Or, they may not. But, it’s all about having the right mix of players. And if Haley and Pioli don’t think these guys are right for this team…then they probably aren’t.
Someone mouthed off yesterday about giving Pioli and Haley “a pass”, and blah blah blah. It’s not about giving anyone a pass. But let’s see the product on the field before we declare that these guys don’t have a clue. I happen to think they DO know what they’re doing…and I’m really looking forward to seeing a couple of people eat their words.
Bob, your poem was absolutely hillarious!!
well done!
The process to building a team, I’ve heard, is the following:
1) Identify talent
2) Evaluate talent
3) Acquire talent
4) Develop talent through good coaching
Any part of that 4-legged stool comes up short and we have some purging action as Pioli/Haley have been doing.
I think the Herm era had its most problems with #2 and #4 above, while Haley/Pioli are too early to assess, at least intelligently based on trends and track record.
Johnston a 7th…Merritt a 7th…Kevin Robinson a 6th…Will Franklin 4th - the “wing and a prayer” portion the draft, every. Win some, lose some.
2009 draft? If it pans out or poops same, it was done the auspices the same scouting staff Herm’s - let us see who takes the blame for those that do not prevail (understanding of course that it is always easier for a new GM & staff any to cut players they didn’t personally bring in (cue the 2008 Chiefs class we critique herein.)
For every Jarrad Page the 7th- by cracky, another Herm man - a Johnston, Merritt, Robinson - & then some. Herm cut LB Napolean Harris here - yet Napy started for MINN…different scheme.
FA Deron Cherry? #1 Ryan Sims. FA Emmitt Thomas? #1 Gene Trosch.
Hank Stram took Beathard #1 ‘64…FA Dawson kept the former on the bench forever a backup mostly.
#7 Dave Szott? #1 Trezelle Jenkins. Hit, miss.
Yet, a Herm Edwards found a Maurice Leggett - free agent - Mark Bradley too. Connor Barth - ditto. Tyler Thigpen…Cox…Savage…and too Rudy Niswanger - all come here under the Herm watch. Bears need WR help - but decided that Bradley couldn’t help them - they cut him.
One team’s trash another’s gem.
Obligatory ’search’ & ‘check’ slam - they are not impressing anyone to date. Don’t hold your breath that said will ever change…you’ll pass.
Rip, I’d have to agree with you, but especially #4. Herm and the boys didn’t seem to get through to most players, whether that was due lack of tallent or poor coaching. I wasn’t real excited to see Krumrie kept either. Once we fielded the players, I never saw “the next step” from most of them. Flowers did ok, as did Carr but our D line struggled constantly and never managed to get any constant pressure.
Here’s to Scott and Todd getting it done from top to bottom!!
Fran Tarkenton,
“SALUTE!”
You Fran are why I love the yesteryear players - why too yesteryear’s players are exponentially better every way* than the modern day donnas, primas, Favre’s etc.
(* Well, sort of/for the most, Fran…more in a moment.)
“He goes to New York and bombs”
- and not in a Daryle Lamonica way we must say…
“I think it’s despicable”
- Fran’s rolling!!! Out to the right toward the jugular, back to the left to your other jugular named Brett, cutting across the field - as well dicing & slicing Favr’es penchant Brettness.
“he has made more stupid plays than any great quarterback that I’ve ever seen”
- Fran obviously never got the chance to see any of the so-called great ‘new’ GMs/Head Coaches in action…ever been to Kaycee Francis? Would love to have you critique this mess now underway here.
Yes…’search’ & ‘check’, strange beings another football planet who came here w/ tin foil powers far beyond those of mortal men, QBs, any, etc.
Cutting rosters in pursuit of truth, justice and a set automatons who question/ask naught, wonder naught or why, & too who can play some semblance of football… really, any 22 will do (if enough said can be found.)
* Now then ‘Scrambler’ Fran: when you played for coach Norm Van Brocklin - a great QB in his own right - you too weren’t adept at listening; Norm got so upset with you he left in huffs and puffs for the Falcons. The new coach (Bud Grant) found you exasperating too so off to NY sent you - or, was it you had ’nuff sense to see handwriting on the wall.
Still, today’s divas are in a league of all their own: QBs, GMs, Head Coaches…posers nee wannabes until proven otherwise.
As you all know, I’m not a Herm supporter or a Carl apologist, but so long as the three Brandons (Albert, Flowers, and Carr) continue to develop and hold down their starting positions, then the 2008 draft will be a solid one. It would have produced two starting CBs and a starting LT. Not bad for one draft. This is a HUGE year for Dorsey and Cottam. If those two step up their game and really become quality starters, then this is still an “A” draft in my opinion. Not sure if Morgan will pan out or not but we’ll see. Charles is probably exactly what he was as a rookie, a change of pace back who can catch the ball pretty well and perhaps return kickoffs here and there. Not a bad pick if he’s really good at his role.
If JJ Arrington gets healthy, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if Haley makes a push to bring him in. We have no established return man right now and while Arrington has only been a KR, he could be trained to handle punts. Personally, I wouldn’t make the move because I think the Chiefs have other concerns, but it deserves mentioning. Plus, he has the added bonus of knowing a little about the new Denver schemes as well. We’ll see.
Fantastic poem Bob. Really cracked me up.
I’m pretty sure Rin just finds a topic within Bob’s posts and then goes to Wikipedia. There he finds a few random facts to put in his post so that he sounds like an “old-timer” with a lot of football knowledge.
My money is that he’s a 21 year junior college student that thinks pretty highly of himself.
I’ve been reading this blog since it’s debut, there have been times when I’ve chuckled at some of the things written by commenter’s and the author(s), but never have I busted a gut laughing like I did after reading “Twelve Little Chiefs taken in the draft,One smoked a toke and eleven were left.” That was classic!
We need an o-line or GAMEOVER man, GAMEOVER!
Bob,
You would have more fun covering the Punxsy Chucks.
Let me know how to actually reach you.
Michael
If you look at the big picture, the class of 08 is & will be a great class of players. Think about it. At least 5 are starters, 3 have the potential to be. (if they continue to mature & remain coachable). Time is the barometer to judge the picks.
I want to bring in some opinions on our 4th qtr. collapses from last year. In my mind the biggest collapse was the 2nd Charger game. I was sooo upset… Whether it was coaching, mental lapses, conditioning or don’t give a crap attitude. We simply lost too many games in the last 10 minutes.
Does anybody have an explanation or cause? Can it be corrected this year?
I am still perplexed over the Gonzo trade. My wife would watch the games with me, mostly because she loved Tony. With him gone, my wife may take up quilting or some other girl thing.
Somebody on the Chiefs this year needs to make an impact. An impact that has all of the NFL talking or I’m going to be watching the Chiefs alone. Anybody want to take a stab @ any Chiefs future impact player? Do we even have a diamond in the rough?
Tate: You could be right but I bet he is really a Broncos fan trying to confuse us.
jimbo: The players that step up and become well known popular players seem to just magically appear from nowhere. Who can predict such people with any accuracy? Maybe someone can but not many.
True…the 08 draft is still pretty good……maybe.
Any insights on last year’s starting QB - Mr. Croyle? Seems to me that he is most likely to be cut - better sooner rather than later. Why are they hanging on to him???
jimbo says:
“I want to bring in some opinions on our 4th qtr. collapses from last year. Whether it was coaching, mental lapses, conditioning or don’t give a crap attitude.”
My take? Yes…all of the above. With conditioning and attitude being the biggest two. I think our guys were simply out of gas by the fourth quarter. And I firmly believe that will not be an issue this year. The attitude part? My feeling is that after a while…our guys got into the habit of losing late in games. They came to EXPECT it, it seemed. Kinda’ like “Crap…here we go again.” And guys would give up. Not everyone…but some. Heads were down…and we were losers. We had that losing attitude. And that’s tough to shake. That’s why I’m hoping the new coaching staff can instill a WINNING attitude in our players. More than anything, I think that’s why guys like Vrable and Thomas have been brought to the team. Or even Cassel. These guys have been on winning teams. They know what it feels like to win….and be on a good team. How many guys from our roster last year know what it even feels like to be on a winning NFL team? Not too many…that’s for sure. Fortunately…that’s about to change.
I really liked Johnston, I thought he would be a better LB than Hali or Turk, they are too slow as a DE, how are they going to try and play LB where you need to be even faster? If Johnston lost 10 pounds he would do fine as a LB, he was one of our best pass rushers before he got injuried, and we didnt have very many of them. I bet he goes on and does good in the league, I hope this means they are going to try and sign Ellis.
dusty says:
“Any insights on last year’s starting QB - Mr. Croyle? Seems to me that he is most likely to be cut - better sooner rather than later. Why are they hanging on to him???”
My opinion? You need three QB’s on you roster. Brodie is the third best QB on our roster right now. And I think that’s all there is to it.
Continuing…
Any 22 nee 22 “anys”…eh ‘check’? No, not ‘just’ any 22…ones bark on cue- roll over - then mess selves - afore asking “may I have another sir?”
Appears the fallacy ‘check’s edict to Waters has been proven faux e’en by his own transaction nee undertaking - “undertaking” - heh heh heh, as KC Chiefs 2009 season to come - bury it … be fini afore it even begins.
Four lower round nee echelon draftees gone - not unusual tack a new regime - yet 4 the expressed “anys”…
And the score: Waters 1, ‘check’ 0… check.
Actually as of today, 47 Chiefs here since last year are still here - 23 offense, 21 defense, 3 special teams.
16 have been released, 1 traded. New additions - more those - “22 anys” - include 17 defense, 14 offense, 2 special teams…how many will stay… well, if 22 anys can, so they should.
On the other, can’t have it both ways ‘check’ & ’search’ fandom: either any 22 can do or any 22 can’t. Which is it/will it be? Out with the old - ALL - and in with the new SAME/ALL or…naught?
So, what to make of ‘check’, his pretzel logic?
64 were here at the start ’search’ & ‘check’, 47 remain.
Herm Edwards had said some 80% of the team was already set…and he read not only his team but the new regime very well appears - with the 47 remaining as of today, that be some 74%.
And the score: Herm 1, ‘check’ 0… check.
Appears you got some splainin’ to do “messers” ’search’/'check’.
Oh, and make an appointment…I’m very busy - and that’s an order messers!
Jimbo,
Impact player? Diamond in the rough? Here’s MY hope…
Ryan Succop.
Now that you guys have stopped laughing, listen. How great would it be to have a good, reliable kicker again? A guy who is almost automatic within 40 yards? A guy you could send out there KNOWING that he’s going to “nail it” 9 times out of 10? A guy who can put his kickoffs into the endzone most of the time…so the opposing team must EARN their field position?
How many more points could we score with a good kicker? How many more FG’s might we TRY with a good kicker? How cool would it be to see our kickers kickoffs sail 5 yards deep into the endzone on a consistant basis?
I have a hunch this guy just might be that guy. And THAT would have an impact.
jimbo,
Jackie Bates!
That Succop…he always was trying to make an impression on his elders.
Speaking of said, the elder statesman of the pro football soccer style kicker - apologies to Mssr. Gogolak who while first certainly wasn’t the best - be the realm Jan Stenerud.
As to kickoffs which Scott (unfortunate choice in first name that was entirely out of his hands, as be the Chiefs future with that other bespectacled one, Patriot way) alluded to, I remember how Jan regularly put the ball into the back of the fence on kickoffs at old Municipal Stadium starting in 1967.
Even considering that kickoffs then were 10 yards closer, end zone depth has never changed, so that even today a Stenerud kickoff wouldst be into the end zone some 2 yards deep, regularly.
40+ years ago and modern day kickers - like the players otherwise - fail miserably to match the greatness yesteryear’s, ad nauseam/ad infinitum.
So come on Ryan, apply yourself nee your knack - be a Succop… win that KC Chiefs kicking job.
Rin Tin Tin, I didn’t realize that Herm was as close to his 80% finished comment as we speak, Thats good news. When he made that comment last year I could see the team wasn’t far off, after last season and another A+ draft this year it would have been completed.
I hope that Succop can pressure Barth into getting better this year…
These were on the ProFootball weekly web site:
Broncos cut RB Arrington
By PFW staff
May 28, 2009
The Broncos trimmed their crowded RB corps late Wednesday, releasing J.J. Arrington after learning that he would need season-ending microfracture surgery on his right knee.
Arrington, who spent the first four seasons of his career with the Cardinals, underwent arthroscopic knee surgery earlier this offseason, but he encountered setbacks while attempting to build up strength in the knee.
Denver agreed to a four-year, $10 million contract with him at the start of free agency, but the deal was delayed by about a week as the team reworked the deal to include a knee-injury waiver that would void the guaranteed money of $3 million.
Damaged relationship between OG Waters, Chiefs’ new regime may be irreparable
By Michael Blunda
May 28, 2009
With so many question marks heading into 2009, the last thing the Chiefs need is to lose a key cog in their offensive unit this late in the game. But that’s exactly what could happen with four-time Pro Bowl OLG Brian Waters, who’s clearly disgruntled with the club’s new regime. It was known that Waters and head coach Todd Haley butted heads in their initial meeting, but from what we hear, things between the two got heated, with the normally mild-mannered Waters snapping at one of Haley’s comments and shouting at his new boss. Waters said then that he had no desire to remain in K.C., and he has not reported for any of the team’s voluntary offseason activities since. Considering that GM Scott Pioli has already purged the Chiefs of many of their veteran players, he might not have any reservations about doing the same with the 32-year-old Waters, even if it means losing his most proven offensive lineman.
I hope that were not trying to kick more FG’s this year because the Chiefs offense can’t move the ball effectively.
If you go buy track records and trends the Cardinals offense the year before last had the best place kicker in the NFL in Neil Rackers because they couldn’t score TD’s.
Are players today better than those yester? No, as we’ve shown and can in a hundred other ways nee via examples, specific and general.
We can as well take the advice the late EM Cioran who said -
“What I know at 60, I knew as well at twenty - 40 years of a long, superfluous, labor verification.”
arrowhead1978
Yes; and of course there may be one, two or even more players who are here now or coming who were not referenced my post; so…the dust hasn’t yet settled … once the final roster is in place an even better gauge.
“When he made that comment last year I could see the team wasn’t far off, after last season and another A+ draft this year it would have been completed.”
- exactly so & crushingly nee painfully accurate as well to those who try - quite unsuccessfully - to denigrate Herman Edwards Jr.
“I hope that Succop can pressure Barth into getting better this year.”
- crystal-ballin’ is not my forte - but, appears as if at the least be it Succop or coughdrop- er, Connor Barth, the kicking will be better than it was the likes a Medlock & every other last years same not named Barth.
Wow, what a choice: our 2009 kicker will be one or the other either a connotation Hoover vacuum, - or - nauseatingly close sans a letter or three a surname, to…puke.
Yech…
If Wimpy were here and had my best guess in mind, would likely say - “I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a Succop today.”
arrowhead1978,
I don’t want to be kicking FG’s instead of scoring TD’s either.
But it would be nice to have a reliable kicker that, when the time does come, that we have a reasonable amount of confidence that he will make the kick. I want a kicker that we’re not afraid to send out there for a 45-yarder…because he might miss and give the other team the ball on the 35. I want a guy that you can send out there for the game-winning FG and KNOW that he’s going to make it.
You GO Fran!
I personally believe that Brett shot himself in the foot last year … he definitely tainted his image a bit.
Since when has the coach been solely responsible for draft selections?! Good or bad. NEVER!
Some of you guys are falling for rins bull shi* again. He understands that the last claim to herms success as a head coach is the drafts he was a PART of. Lord knows he can’t use his win loss or progress made as an argument, although he CLINGS to one very short stint in a playoff game, his first season as coach as lame as that is. Remember, Peterson had final say on the draft. In fact there was a widely reported story that Herm said that the only thing he wanted as a BD present was Brandon Carr, meaning that he was the one guy he was adamant about drafting. Not Albert or Dorsey, or any of the other 10 picks they had. Just Carr! That so far seems to be a good choice, but to say he was the brains behind the draft is ludacris!
Many of you are allowing Rin to manipulate you down to his level. By accepting the fact that Herm was the “decider” on the draft. SO some start making statements that are in reverse, as ridicules his.
But carry on my wayward son’s (Kansas, the band NOT the State)
All I’m saying is hold to what you KNOW is true, that Herm was simply a small part of the decision making process, so he should get an equal share of credit or scorn along with Peterson.
Don’t let this guy make you look as ridicules as he does!
ludicrous! Too
anonymous says:
“Many of you are allowing Rin to manipulate you down to his level.
Don’t let this guy make you look as ridicules as he does!”
Hmmm…not sure who you think that clown is “manipulating”. Seems like an intelligent group around here. I think most of us know bullsh*t when we smell it. And the only one who “looks ridiculous” on this forum is Rin himself.
Scott,
Do you think herm had the final say on picks?
I would imagine that Peterson did. But I couldn’t say for sure. You’d have to ask Carl or Herm.
It’s irrelevant to me, though. Both are gone from the organization now.
The point I was making is that, Rin is seeking any scrap he can the would prove his idiotic argument that herm was a successful coach. And, that some are giving validity to this, by accepting the fact that he was the guy who orchestrated the damn thing!
Herm was a TOTAL failure as head coach, that is obvious, but he and Peterson MAY have added a few pieces to this team that make long term contributions. For some to suggest other wise is as ridicules as his Bull shi*.
your mistake was reading Rin’s posts. I, like many others, wisely scroll past.
Eventually, Bob will realize he is just spamming this blog.
anonymous says:
“Don’t let this guy make you look as ridicules as he does!”
- anon’s got green eyes - ‘again’. It’s a good look, nee looks good on him too. Although anon wasn’t very clear in his rambling blather-isms.
That “as (Rin) does” make folks look “ridiculous as” he makes them look is- well, more so a matter of the uneducated “theys” (as you) profiting from the manna engendered by me that is He…Rin.
Persevere anyway, despite your lack any thereof…
WOW!
Second belly laugh from this blog to day!
“anon wasn’t very clear” LMAO!
Considering the source…
Author, I didn’t think it was possible to beat your quip from earlier today, but I’ll be damned!, if it wasn’t accomplished, from a VERY unlikely source. That just goes to show every dog has at least two funnies in him.
“In the under 4-3 defense the Chiefs will run…”
Say what? What you talking about Bob Gretz?
And they say you can’t lead a dupe- whoops, I mean a horse to…
Rin not only leads them to water, makes them drink & “eat it” - while they’re laughing unto their own demise.
Like a frog put into water slowly heated, ne’er even know what hits ‘em…heh heh heh
He’s talking about the base defense the Chiefs will run, a “4-3 under”. It’s not a 34. But we can expect to see some 34 sub packages.
Ill tell you one thing, if the drafts had nothing to do with Herm, then why in the hell were they better drafts then I ever saw from Carl and Dick?? Go ahead and tell me the coach has no say in what players get drafted and Ill tell you, you don’t know sh*t if it hit you in your face.
Just like everyone drank the kool-aid and believes Pioli is the man who drafted all of the Patriots who started the Dynasty, belichick doesn’t have final say there either right?? Well, we will get to see what Pioli didn’t learn from Belichick this year in the personnel dept.
arrowhead1978,
Oh, I think Herm had a “say” in the draft picks. I don’t doubt that at all. But, I’m guessing the FINAL “say” was Peterson’s. They probably agreed on some of the picks. Or maybe most of them. But I just don’t see Carl’s ego letting ANYONE tell him who to pick.
I could be wrong, though.
Now? I see it probably being much the same. I think Haley will have lots of input. But I think the final decisions will be Pioli’s.
Again, I could be wrong.
We’ll probably never really know for sure on either count.
Hit submit too soon…
Was going to say that I think Belichick’s “say” with Pioli probably far and away exceeded that of Herm’s “say” with Carl Peterson.
Belichick had the final say with Pioli. Belichick is the VP of something or other with the Patriots. Pioli was under Belichick as the Director of Player Personnel.
Carl always claimed that he got the players that the coach wanted. One exception from that was Turk McBride who Carl took to replace Jared Allen inspite of coach input. Gotta love how that turned out for us.
“Herm was as close to his 80% finished…”
Thankfully 100% finished as the Chiefs head coach.
“I want to bring in some opinions on our 4th qtr. collapses from last year.”
No tape on new gimmicky offense - gets some points in the first half. Halftime adjustments come…Chiefs stop scoring. End of story.
“Continuing…”
Must you?
“…be fini afore it even begins.”
No that was the general sentiment with regard to the 2008 season. This year’s team might actually play with pride and win one or two of those charitable games we gave away last year.
“End of story.”
- thank God; geyser nee gusher that speaks now no more, spews forth without saying anythin’ finally run his course gone dry, belly up.
We thought SG would never shaddup.
Last words his lips: “yup, Herm’s STILL The Man.”
Then SG exhaled: “this is the end.”
Then he died.
As dead men tell no tales, SG was then hired by ’search’ & ‘check’ to be in charge of their PR.
“…hired by ’search’ & ‘check’…”
The year was 2055…after 3 Super Bowl wins in a row, ’search’ and ‘check’ still in charge of the Chiefs dynasty…SG was so shocked to finally get hired by such a great organization…he responded to the question concerning the previous regime seemingly eon’s earlier…
Last words his lips: “yup, Herm’s STILL The Man…” who holds the all time record for Chiefs futility with a 2-14 record…the worst debacle this franchise has ever endured. He will never be forgotten - for the simple reason we don’t ever want to suffer such a thing ever again.
Keep clicking those heels together Dorothy (while repeating ’search’ n ‘check, ’search’ n ‘check’!)
May 28, 2009 - anonymous says:
He’s talking about the base defense the Chiefs will run, a “4-3 under”. It’s not a 34. But we can expect to see some 34 sub packages.
The Chiefs have stated several times they’re running a 3-4 as their base, not 4-3 Under. Why does this myth of the 4-3 Under persist? Will someone quote the D-coordinator or Head Coach, because so far, it’s only EVER been the 3-4 in comments to the media.
Anon,
OK, if you say so.
I missed ole Rin glad you didn’t off yourself when Herm got flushed.
Alas, a ’search’ and a ‘check’ after the plumbing backed up brought “a 1 and a 2″ - just wasn’t the same fragrance Herm brought forth nor a champagne quality as Lawrence Welk uttering the calculates.
Lol!! you amuse me Rinny
Dos Equis has “the most interesting man in the world” - they wanted Rin, but He declined.
Bob’s Gretzland has not only Rin but too - “Jody” - “the most honest person in the world” - or at least on the blog…(eh eh ahem, aft Rin x2 that is.)
