2009 Chiefs Schedule

The NFL did the Chiefs no favors in the schedule they handed the team for the 2009 regular season. The league announced the dates and times of all 256 games on its card for this fall on Tuesday evening.

Even though they could have been at home for the opening weekend – the Royals are out of town - the league decided to send the Chiefs on the road to start the season against the Ravens in Baltimore on Sunday, September 13th.

The Chiefs home opener will come the following Sunday, when they host Oakland.

The schedule is a killer at the start, with Baltimore, Philadelphia, the New York Giants, Dallas, Washington and San Diego in six of the first seven games.

The Chiefs will wear their throwback uniforms for home games against Dallas on October 11 and on October 25 against San Diego.  They will wear them on the road on November 15 in Oakland.

All the Chiefs games are Sunday, with no prime-time matchups. Flex scheduling late in the season could change that. All games start at noon with the exception of the AFC West road games in Oakland and San Diego (3:05 p.m.) and Denver (3:15 p.m.)

The Chiefs did get a good bye week, with the time off falling almost exactly at mid-season.

We all knew the schedule was going to be tough…facing the NFC East and AFC North. But you’re right, Bob, the League didn’t exactly help us out. This is the 3rd year in a row we start out on the road. Houston, New England, and now Baltimore.

y is seattle on the pre season schedule 2 times bob step it up u been screwin up alot lately

Our schedule pretty much sucks except the bye week comen at a good time. Hey, on the bright side we did play New England tough for the first game last year and maybe we come out swinging with a few unknowns to anybody with our new coaching staff and pull one off at the Ravens in our first game this year, they did lose some good players and coaches. Heck I see we might be 2-0 to when we go to Philadelphia and drop that one then come home and stand a good chance of another two at home 4-1 or 3-2. Remember, us fans in Arrowhead are the 12th man. GO CHIEFS!!!!!!

Hey Bob, at least you hit on the Pittsburgh game.

  • April 14, 2009  - tm1946 says:

Bob what up?? Wrong dates (civil war in 1961?), now seattle twice?? Is this you or some flunky?? Love this site but not sure you are really here??

Schedule looks tough. No prime time, maybe 2-5 by break. Makes for another bad year, Herm left a bad taste but this may not be any better.

Looks pretty rough I think 2-5 at the bye week will be impressive. I guess if you want to look on the bright side looks like we have more winnable games towards the end of the season. Hopfully we build some momentum going into 2010. Hell then again 7-9 may win the west.

  • April 14, 2009  - tm1946 says:

The AFC West will have somebody step up better than 7-9. My best bet is SD. Unfortunately for us, the end of the Carl/Herm regime put the fans in a bad mood and Poili/Haley must survive that.

Will we all be patient while Pioli trys to resurrect this team, I am not sure we will.

  • April 14, 2009  - Kenny says:

What are you pansies talking about? I LOVE this schedule. If we are building the tough, physical and smart team Pioli and Haley want, these will be good games.

Since I live out here in California, I have to pay alot of money to watch the Chiefs on the Sunday Ticket. I want to see them play the best teams every week. Any competitive player wants to play against the best teams and best players. This type of schedule also brings out the best in the Chiefs.

    I’m excited already.

For a guy with constant complaints about Herm, you sure talk about him alot. Did he leave a bad taste in your mouth?? Literally of course……

  • April 14, 2009  - Harold C. says:

Lets get a grip. Nobody knows how tough this schedule really is. Everybody bases their opinion on the schedule by what the teams were like last year….but they are not the same. They’ve been tinkered with. All the fans of our opponents look at KC on their schedule and see an instant win for their team. We of course are optimistic that they are wrong because this Chiefs team should be very different from last year. All the teams we face will also be different from last year. Some of the teams we think are going to be a push-over will be tough teams. Some we think will be tough will be push-overs. So lets not get all worked up because of our “tough” schedule. We don’t really know what is going to happen. Maybe this is one of those rare years that we win in Denver!!!

  • April 14, 2009  - Harold C. says:

…..and if the Chiefs are not going to be good enough to win against some “Tough” teams….at home or on the road….if they need an easy schedule to get to the post season…..then we might as well forget about winning in the playoffs or getting to the Super Bowl. They need to learn to win no matter what the circumstance. “Tough schedule”….BAH!

Agree completely Harold C! You brought your A-game today!

Bob continues to bring his C game though….

The free agency , The draft , And salary caps have made ALL 32 teams better and better ever year.
This is what’s making the NFL what it is . There is NO easy schedule any more . In fact what I notice is the way alot really good teams get better and better in the 2nd half of the season .
This is where the question of who has the best talent –players & coaches plus managent .
Was Arz. a really good team last April ?
Last year I thought the Panthers would be unstopable . Did they lay down or did a lot of other do teams do something to get it together .
Any more a fumbel –bad call–some one calling a wrong play — lineman stand up in the Red Zone .
This all is what it can come down to !
Bottom line is there is a lot of talent playing better ball .

  • April 15, 2009  - Mark says:

You can never tell about the strength of schedule beforehand. But what you can analyze year in and year out is WHEN you play a certain team, and who do they have before and after you, and how likely they are to be “up” for you. Based on doing that quickly, the Chiefs have an outstanding schedule that can set them up for a good year.

1)@ Balt, Ravens are @ SD next.

2)Raiders, who are in a sandwhich between home games with Denver and SD

3)@Philly going into a bye. We lilely get their full attention and A game

4)Jints 3rd straight road game- tired and exhausted- GREAT time to catch them. These are scheduling anomalies I make a fortune betting against when they come up.

    5)Dallas Between @ Denver and a Bye

6)@ Wash who host Philly next week

7)SD in a Denver-Oakland sandwhich and we have bye

9)@ Jax who just played Tenn

    10)@ Oak off bye

    11)Pitt in a Cinn, @ Balt sandwhich

12)@ Sd, coming off @ Denver

13)Denver coming off Giants, with @ Indy next

14)Buff in a Jets- NE sandwhich

    15)Cleve after they play Pitt

    16)@ Cinn in a @ SD, @ Jets sandwhich

17)@ Denver who just played @ Philly.

Except for Giants Steelers Pats and Colts. The rest of the NFL teams are unpredictable. Looking at the schedule it may not be as hard as most people think. Cowboys will take a step back offensively without having TO. Eagles defense losing Dawkins and with them not adding anything to the offense side as far as running or receiver weapons will hurt them. The Ravens lost their defensive coord. and Bart Scott and with an older R. Lewis their is no gurantee their defense is going to be the same this year. The Giants don’t have Plax and we see how last year their offense was affected by the lost though i do believe they will be one of the teams at the top this year.

Point is their is only about 4 teams in the league that you can truly predict will be good this year everyone else is a toss up. Falcons went from worst to first last season and Cowboys and Packers went from 13 and 3 the year before to missing the playoffs last year. YOu just never can tell.

  • April 15, 2009  - ED says:

Hey Bob just want to help you out on an error of the pre-season schedule we start PRE-SEASON opener at home against the HOUSTON TEXANS. You put the Seahawks twice.
