Do Cassel & Chiefs Have A Deal?

From the Truman Sports Complex

NFL Network is reporting Saturday afternoon that the Chiefs have negotiated a long-term contract with QB Matt Cassel. They are reporting it’s a six-year deal with $36 million in guaranteed  money.

But SI.com’s Peter King, who is in Kansas City for the draft is reporting that the report is false, and that Cassel and the Chiefs do not have a new deal.

As we’ve come to expect, the Chiefs are saying nothing, neither yes or no, to the news.

Stay tuned for more details.

That seems like an extremely discounted deal to me, considering the deal Stafford signed. Cassel has won 11 games in the NFL, where Stafford hasn’t taken a snap.

Not saying it’s going to happen, or even that it should, but that contract makes Cassel very attractive IF the Chiefs wanted to deal him.

This is great news. Cassell is now locked up for six years and he doesn’t have to play with a 14.5MM cap number. I just saw on the web that the rumored trade of Dorsey to Atlanta for their 1st rounder(No24) and their 3rd rounder(No90) is not dead. I kind of like that potential trade. I guess we’ll find out in the next couple of hours if indeed this was just a rumor.

I misread the authors post, the key word was guaranteed. Still, does anyone else find the timing of this deal a little odd?

I just wonder if the deal has been done for several weeks and they decided to announce it on draft day. I agree, it still seems to be an unusual time to announce the deal.

I hope so, I really like the guy, lock him up, use the 14 mil against this years cap, and lead a cap friendly deal the rest of the way.

Cmon Curry or Crabtree. lets go

actually, trade back, trade LJ, trade waters, and lets move on!

Maybe they’ve been dangling Cassel as trade bait…and had no takers. So they went ahead and signed him.

I kinda’ doubt it…but you never know.

Man…if KC could get Atlanta’s 1st and 3rd for Dorsey, I’d pull the trigger on that in a heartbeat.

I wonder if they needed to get the deal done to free up more cap space if they are going to trade Dorsey. I don’t remember his signing bonus, but it was huge. I think we would have to take a hit on 80% of the amount if we trade him. Just a thought and may have no impact on the getting the deal done now.
