Chiefs Third-Round Choice: Alex Magee/Purdue

Arcilla Alexander Magee/Purdue/DT-DE

  • HT: 6-3
  • WT: 298 pounds
  • Born: April 28, 1987
  • High School: Osewego High School, Illinois
  • Testing: 5.03 in 40-yard dash, 29.5-inch vertical jump, 8-feet, 7-inch broad jump, lifted 225 pounds 30 times.

2008 season: played in 12 games, starting 11 times at left defensive end. He was credited with 28 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 6 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble and 1 recovered fumble.

2007: started 13 games at right defensive tackle. He was credited with 38 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles and 1 recovered fumble. He also blocked a pair of kicks

2006: played in 14 games and started seven games at right defensive tackle. He was credited with 33 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 1 interception, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble, 1 recovered fumble. He also blocked a kick.

2005: played in 11 games and started two games at right defensive tackle. He was credited with 18 tackles, with 1 tackle for loss.

Overall Evaluation: versatile player who can play at tackle and defensive end. He has quick feet and is good in pursuit. Magee is not bulky, but he has good strength. Similar in style to Arizona’s Darnell Dockett. Has limited pass rush ability, having played just one season at DE and finishing 50 games and 33 starts with just six sacks.  Magee really helped his stock with a good week of practice at the Senior Bowl, where he showed his quick hands and quick feet.  Some scouts think he can be a better pass rusher either inside or outside with more coaching.  Magee said Sunday that in just a short period of time with Chiefs D-Line coach Tim Krumrie during a workout, he learned a couple things he did not know.

The KC Chiefs draft choice in round 3 is: DE/DT Alex Magee . . . hallelujah, we’re saved!

    Alex Magee?

Rin: “Herm, my sides are hurting again!”

So much for drafting a pass rusher and so much for being aggressive in the draft…. I have such a bad taste in my mouth from previously d-lineman busts, its hard to get excited. Pioli must be all about versatility since both Jackson and Magee seem to fit that mold, now what do we do with Dorsey….. If we don’t get O-line depth and a RT we are going to be in some serious trouble. My prediction 5-11 for this year… Luckily the Raiders continue to be the laughing stock of the draft.

Well, with two more prime draft picks added to the D line, there should be NO EXCUSES for poor run defense. Krumrie has gotten more talent added to his unit than anyone on our staff. He needs to coach his ass off this year and get something out of all these talented kids.

Well we’ll see if the great Pioli knows what he is doing… I personally think the Heyward-bey pick is a good one. Crabtree may be the best COLLEGE receiver doesn’t mean he will be the best NFL receiver. Just as Braylon edwards and our own Bowe has shown, great in College doesn’t exactly mean great in the NFL and vice versa. Don’t get me wrong I like Bowe needs to get his hands back though…

Pioli still hasn’t addressed the poor O-line.

With the chiefs going to the 3-4, they better hope thier LB’s can play the run better

Giants got the best WO in this draft. Hakeem Nicks, He’s not as flashy as Crabtree, but I think he’ll be a better pro. Giants gotta be ecstatic!

Washington should be able to contribute on ST. Lord knows it needs improvement.

If you can’t stop the run, you’ll BE run out of the stadium. I’m seeing the mind of Pioli on display here.

Another guy showing what a poor pick McBride was, and what a poor decision letting Wilkerson go was. Pioli and Haley sure have to clean up alot of the stink Carl and Herm left. THAT’S the story of this draft.

This is true, a lot of why we didnt do much….no time to evaluate what we have…and quite frankly, we didnt have much to trade away…

As for this pick, I love it if they trade dorsey…thats IF…because this guy is the perfect 3-4 5 tech next to tyson jackson, who will be on the other side, with tank in the middle…

odd man out? Dorsey. hes a 4-3 guy in a 3-4 team.

On second thought after reflection, a poor two days of drafting by Pioli and Haley. They both appear clueless. So, THAT’S the story of this draft.
