Chiefs/Cassel Practice 9/9 Updated
From the Truman Sports Complex
QB Matt Cassel was back on the practice field this morning as the Chiefs went through their Wednesday session in preparation for Sunday’s regular-season opener against Baltimore.
Chiefs coach Todd Haley said Cassel was able to get through practice with no problems. But he was unwilling to commit to whether Cassel will play Sunday against Baltimore. “That’s going to be a situation that we evaluate as the week goes on,” said Haley. “I don’t know that we’ll have an answer until right before the game.”
Haley allowed that Cassel would be listed as questionable when the team’s first injury report comes out on Wednesday.
In the short window where practice is open to the media, Cassel did pretty much the same work he did during Monday’s practice. He worked that injured left knee in the position drills, although he did not take part in any drill that required movement beyond a pass drop. Cassel worked some on hand-off timing with the running backs and then threw to the wide receivers.
Just as he did on Monday, Cassel did not look brisk in his pass drops. He did seem willing to put more pressure on his left knee on the follow through, however.
Cassel was not in the locker room when it was open to the media, but Brodie Croyle was and he’s preparing this week to start, but doesn’t know whether that will happen. “As a backup, you always have to prepare to start,” said Croyle. “I”m doing the same things that I will do next week, or will do in week No. 10. If the opportunity comes, you have to be ready.”
Todd Haley had the entire roster working in the full pads practice that was held outdoors under cloudy skies and muggy conditions.
On the club’s injury report to the league, two other players were listed with Cassel as limited in practice participation: CB Brandon Flowers (shoulder) and RB Jackie Battle (illness).
Haley talked about the Ravens after practice and called them “a three-headed monster.”
“I think they are obviously one of the great defenses over the last decade,” Haley said. “Year-in and year-out even though they’ve had to plug different players into different roles each year they’ve come in and played defense. It’s easy to talk about defense when you talk about Baltimore but I think what’s changed with Baltimore is now the offense is an offense that gives you something to deal with. They’ve got a very good quarterback; they’ve got three tremendous runners; they’ve got one of the top tight ends in the league and they’ve got three receivers that are very good receivers. They have a very physical offensive line. It’s easy to talk about the defense but the offense is now here without a doubt.
“Special teams, they’re one of the better special teams groups in the league. It’s obvious with coach (John) Harbaugh it is his area of expertise and it shows with this team.
“I think (Baltimore’s) a three-headed monster as far as I’m concerned.”
Arrrgh! Still nothing on the Jon Runyan workout.
Messiah,
What’s that score again?
“Just as he did on Monday, Cassel did not look brisk in his pass drops.”
- one ne’er truly looks good where dropped passes be the crux (’Q’ sans the ‘I’ ’showing up’ again a football lack, appears.) Mutt so badly injured a braced knee could not even rouse within himself a brisk retort to the man with no hands? The lack of leadership hi$ be killing the team…show some EMOTION! For $63 mill tis the least you can do!
I hope my daddy-o comes home so he can make love to me and mutt.. I’ll make him earn his 63 million.:X
If not brisk (umm good BBQ’d brisket ala Ca$$el!) than perhaps brusque, Mutt? Does anyone e’en know you’re alive? Too late summon Judd…only Ravens for the defense should you dare look them in the eye nee match their stare SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!
And then, alas, willst be too late for you silly fellow…dead at 27 near if not so much ‘pon the shores Potomac, not far from where dubbya (as in George) threw that money across – bad bet – life yours end shores a rocky as in non-existent line, offensively challenged yours…
+ R.I.P. + 5/17/82 – 9/13/09
But then ‘no’ shall not, for you as your be as androgenicly suppresive nee challenged as your o-line … live to yet run another day thy dual cowards Jackson County!
Which is to say how big (if any) are that ‘pair’? How badly do “we want to win NOW”, ? Any man can take “any 22 fromst off” surely can!

Here’s something from PFT – Off-topic, but possibly interesting to readers of this blog:
https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/09/09/should-the-cardinals-be-worried/
Of note:
“Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt has downplayed any concern, but Kurt Warner also bemoaned the team’s lackluster preseason in a radio interview. He seemed to hint the team could use a little butt-kicking, like the one former offensive coordinator Todd Haley used to administer.
“I am not going to put [our struggles] all on Todd but he was very much a vocal, in-your-face, challenging type of coach that would really push guys,” Warner said. “The one thing that I appreciated about Todd is that he pushed us to be great and he wasn’t worried about being our best friend. He just wanted us to respect him for making us better players.”"
But…but…that goes against what our very own self-appointed messiah has been telling us. How could that be?
Ha ha!
Good read, ILChiefsFan. Thanks for the link.
Scott,
Don’t mention it.
If you click through to the posted interview transcript you’ll see that Warner was probably not in love with Haley, but recognizes that sometimes players need to be MOTIVATED to perform their best.
“Kurt Warner . . . seemed to hint the team could use a little butt-kicking”
- Brenda too busy/tired her hands full Kurt, home; a mother’s work is ne’er done…
“Ken Whisenhunt – “The one thing I appreciated about Todd”
- only ‘one? Yet still better than 0 and 4. Ken, he’s yours for the asking; come & get him – will be no talk of Indian nee Chief giver here…

Im tired of Haley lying 2 fans and the media about “The best players will play” then how come Derrick Johnson is listed as a 3rd stringer? If there is 1 thing I know for sure is, he is a helluva lot better than Demorrio Williams! Go Chiefs in 2009 and Beyond!!! Williams has been M.I.A. for 80% of camp.
And you can ‘quoth’ Rin (and Herm) on that too…

“- only ‘one? Yet still better than 0 and 4. Ken, he’s yours for the asking; come & get him – will be no talk of Indian nee Chief giver here…”
The Cardinals are also 0-4 (thus the soul-searching on their part) so I’m not sure what the “better than 0 and 4″ comment means.
And the “one thing” statement was Warner’s; not Whisenhunt’s.
And don’t mock Brenda; she’ll track you down.
The dog being hunted? Ironic huh?
Don’t shoot Lassie, that is who Rin Tin Tin’s real indenity.
Derrick Johnson has been a major under-achiever so far in his career, I have been waiting for DJ to have a “breakout year” for the past 2 seasons, it just has not happened. He doesnt appear to have that killer instinct you want in your LB’s, yeah I said it..HE’S SOFT!! Little to no consistency in his game to game play. He looks like the beast we all wanted/expected one game and the next you wouldnt even know hes on the field. Haley wants consistency and DJ has been one of the least consistent players we have on D. “you cant have YO-YO players” sound familiar? Im not surprised DJ has fallen to where he is listed on the depth chart.
And, of course, our “messiah” knows more about Haley than Haley’s former players and co-workers do. What could THEY possibly know about the man?
RIN IS THE MESSIAH! ALL HAIL 1969! ALL HAIL THE PIED PIPER!
ok, thats it SHUT THE F UP RIN
SHUT THE F UP
Cassel isnt tough? 63 million and its all we get? what a guy that is a leader and gets a 2-4 week injury and is out on that field, working, pushing, and doing his best.
you ever had knee issues? you MUST GO SLOWLY you freaking DOLT, serious reinjury risk in the first week of an MCL issue, no matter how minor.
sometimes I wonder if you warped from the wizard of OZ….how often do you find yourself singing “If I only had a brain”?
Cassel is TOUGH AS NAILS, this guy will start this weekend, and you know what, ill go ahead and let you eat crow on that one too since…
lets face it, you looked flat out stupid in the lawrence wont make the team tirades.
and rin, keep on singing…
Lassie licks himself
Rin is simply the biggest waste of space…bring something to the ACTUAL convo at hand, bring ANYTHING that isnt negative, or just trying to piss people off….
honestly, I take none of it personally, but the stuff you say is just WRONG…you try to WALK let alone go on a practice field a week after an MCL AND ANKLE injury…amazing.
hey alexthegreat
the best ARE playing…DJ makes many mistakes, he has great ability, however say we took him round 5, would you still look at him as a starting LB? I wouldnt….Mays showed more in 4 games than DJ did take away his once every 4 games when he makes a few plays…BP proved numbers mean nothing…Heck, listen to baltimore, they are impressed by Tamba Hali, The Coach said he can do it all…thats quite the compliment…
I wouldnt resign DJ….no way…not for what he would want…and the best players are those that fit in the scheme, AND play within the rules of the scheme….DJ wasnt doing that, or who knows really…but he wouldnt sit DJ just to play Demorrio Williams unless there was a very good reason.
I agree, Alex. This idea that some people have…that Haley isn’t going to start the better players? Pure BS. The man makes his living on wins and losses…and he’s going to let a better player sit on the bench? Come on…be serious.
You Suck & I don’t even have too say his name ……& yet ever one on this blog knows who Iam talking about.
He’s talking about me!!!!

Hey Tin Rin “I’m not going to put that all on Todd, but he was very much a vocal, in-your-face, challenging type coach that would really push guys,” Warner said. “Sometimes that would show itself in anger and frustration, guys yelling at each other on the sidelines, but the one thing I appreciated about Todd was, he pushed us to be great …. I’m sure all of this is going to get worked out. But it has only been a few weeks in game-type situations as these new coaches have taken over and it is a bit of a feeling-out process. We have to work through that.”

obesessive herm lover came out swinging today – to bad he just can’t connect
Could Haley be challenging DJ to meet the teams needs over his own? DJ does look soft for a LB. I think he has always survived (and excelled) on his deity’s given skills. Now it is time to make an effort to support that. Isn’t it his last year of his current contract, want more cash go out there and earn it. Probably wrong and he is just done in the NFL as a starter.
yeah thats a great quote on Haley. Rin didnt see that…Remember he cant read.
Sure this is a free country, but FREE Enterprise says BOB G. needs to remove this RIN Character or tell him his speech needs clarification… And i already took the Chiefs +13 against Balmer. Go offense!
Greta…you vant to stay alone in your cellar, vell now you shall – with the Chiefs…
Brenda’s son- er, Kurt is allowed to speak – “the one thing (emphasis ‘one’) appreciated about Todd was he pushed us to be great.”
- maybe if ‘check’ had made you guys run a few (hundred) more laps, or shoved ’stead of pushed that Superbowl ‘L’OSS would have been easier to take (he’s now 0-5 counting his last loss ARIZ – I sense a trend.)
s (trying) to do the same in KC Kurt… alas, whence push came to shove he’s doing the chicken dance – all ‘tapped’ out as in laid an 0-4 egg… GREAT!
Meanwhile, back at Peace Corps Arizona branch, no Davidians but too no doubt whatsoever Kurt’s mind Hailme’s ouster will be overcome in short order:
“I’m sure all of this is going to get worked out.”
- Rin’s certain of it Kurt; oh – by the way, your brow looks less beaten/your ears less cauliflower -ful, your face more placid and flaccid (and less red) 2009 … either Brenda is a fine girl or you miss Hailme about as much as you miss Hy-Vee…

I wouldn’t read too much into the DJ vs. Williams thing yet. We have no reason to believe the depth charts Haley puts out. He’s only used it as a motivational tool so far. Same goes with McGraw vs. Page. I expect both Page and DJ to get significant playing time in week 1 (if not start) and be the clear starters by week 2. Unless they fail to “buy in” or fail miserably in week 1.
That said, I think Williams is a better player than most give him credit for… when healthy. But that’s the kicker: he can suck when playing with injuries like he did most of last year. And apparently he has a nagging hamstring(?) right now, so who knows with him.
Rin don’t you think the nickname Daddy-o just sounds like the name of a child molester? Well obviously not. Just stick to the internet please and don’t come outside

Dj is on the 3rd string team because he’s not consistent. Demmario since coming off injury reserve has been outplaying him. All KC fans has been waiting for DJ to consistently play with a chip on his shoulder maybe the guy is what he is. A guy that sometimes play like an all-pro other times play like a backup linebacker. Hopefully I’m wrong but after 5 seasons I mean you got to start to accept maybe this is the best he’s going to be.
Lol, so u are telling me he is worst than Monty Biesel? LMAO stop it!
Oh and by the way Demorrio is highly inconsistent, why do u think the falcons let him go?
I”m not saying he’s worst but obviously he’s getting outplayed by the guy. What you got to realize in the NFL everybody has talent its about being dicipline and that talent being displayed on Sundays. Alot of guys come into the league with talent but the ones that make it are the ones that give 100% in practice and it translate to the games. Obviously he’s not doing something right to be on the 3rd string team and until he does he’s not playing with the 1st or 2nd team. No different from how Bowe had to step his game up to earn his way back into the starting lineup.
Lassie,
What week did the Herm led Chiefs win last year? Thats what I thought. Haley will win, and will continue to improve the team.
Where’s Barry?
Facts:
-If the Chiefs win 4 games this season they will have improved from Herm’s 08 season by 100%.
-Rin has been wrong regarding who was going to make the roster this season.
-Rin let’s me touch his pee pee.
-A new coach, a new GM, a new system…you have to be retarded to think they will become SuperBowl contenders in 1 offseason.
Rin is not a CHIEFS Fan! Uh…let me repeat this: Rin is not a Chiefs fan! Why even acknowledge him?
heheheheheh
Rin? Dinner’s ready, come here bitch, good boy!
Reminder….
Commenting on Bob and KCSTAR.COM’s blogs and articles from time to time is not a bad thing.
However, bagging on the Chiefs all day, every day is not healthy.
Dogboy…put down the mayo sandwich, change out of the sweat pants, go upstairs and ask your mom if you can go into the back and play. It is WAAAAY healthier than your current fetish.
The Chiefs are a work in progress…patience is needed. Good or bad, it will be a fun year.
Go Chiefs!
whoever the fraudulent poster is I wish he would grow up…
anyway, I wonder if the chiefs will see a 3-4 or a 4-3 from the Ravens, I have heard reports where they were looking at staying in more of a 4-3 defense, they weren’t real happy with thier LB’s.. Dont know how true that is, Ill get to watch it this weekend though
Rin’s a DORK…plain an simple. Hey Rin…your goofy-A$$ giberish is annoying and I’m really starting to think you have a real big crush on Herm Edwards and are sad about the change. I would say a man-crush…but I really think you have the real kind of crush on him if you know what I mean….it’s kind of cute..sort of like a little school girl you are.
Why don’t you spend the hours of time you have each day while everyone else is working for a living and make some Hallmark cards about yourself and Herm. That might be more useful and fun for you.

A three headed monster indeed. But not impossible to slay. It has a weakness. It has to be found and exposed.

I’m following two rules that almost make things bearable around here.
Rule #1. If I see this phrase “Rin Tin Tin says:” I skip to the next post.
Rule #2. If I see the word “Herm” I skip to the next post.
He skips a lot that Harold… sounds like he’s a fag

Mike Sando, of ESPN.com, reports Arizona Cardinals QB Kurt Warner said during a Phoenix radio interview that the team will have to cope with the loss of former offensive coordinator Todd Haley as Haley’s aggressive coaching style kept players alert. The Cardinals wrapped up a preseason in which they looked very lethargic. “I’m not going to put that all on Todd, but he was very much a vocal, in-your-face, challenging type coach that would really push guys,” Warner said. “Sometimes that would show itself in anger and frustration, guys yelling at each other on the sidelines, but the one thing I appreciated about Todd was, he pushed us to be great and he wasn’t worried about being our best friend. He just wanted us to respect him for making us better players. I appreciate that part of it.”
Thoughts rin?
haley will not start page or dj if their not the right players if dj is 3 right now what makes you think he will risk loose face in front of the team, hes going to look like hes not serious if he starts a guy thats on the 3rd string like page and dj and thats all we need is a coach the players dont take serious

Guys, I just want you to know that we are working on blocking the spammer who has been posting comments on these pages. We had to update the Wordpress code early in the week to allow for blocking IP Addresses.
I don’t know why it hasn’t been done before. You can select the option “An administrator must approve the comment (regardless of any matches below)”. Or you can use “Options >> Discussion” and enter Rin’s IP Address. You can find that by collecting the list of IPs every time he posts and then compare.
One thing that Haley is doing is getting back to basics with fundamentals and techniques. The last couple of the Chiefs have been sloppy in making tackles hence a lot of big plays. That’s one of the reasons Pollard was let go and for Page’s and Johnson’s demotions. Better coaching will result in more wins as the last staff did a horrible job in teaching for the HC on down.
