Friday Mini-Camp Update

From the Truman Sports Complex

Although they were behind closed doors, the Chiefs had their first practice under new head coach Todd Haley outside in the April sunshine Friday morning at the Chiefs facility.

Afterwards Haley met with the media and said he was pleased with the morning work.

“We got one under the belt,” Haley said. “That first one wherever you are, is always a chaotic day. Overall, I thought it went pretty well.”

For Haley and his coaching staff, it was a chance to introduce their way of practicing. The head coach acknowledged there were some habits visible among the returning players that did not match the sought after level of intensity he and his coaches expect from their team.

“There’s an art to practicing efficiently and fast,” said Haley. “This is going to be an up tempo deal. There is an art to getting done what you need to get done as a player.”

Haley did not provide a roll call of those participating. He said there were 60-plus players on the field for what is a voluntary camp. With 67 players on the roster, that means a handful of players were not taking part, but Haley said he had heard from those not attending and was satisfied with their explanations.

“We had a bunch of guys out there that looked like they wanted to be there, and ran around; it was a fun time,” Haley said.

When asked who would learn more this weekend, the coaches or players, Haley acknowledged the learning curve was equal.

“This is my first time with my staff together on the field,” said Haley. “You think you’ve covered everything … but until you are out there doing it, you always realize a handful of things that you didn’t (cover).”

Great coverage Bob! I can’t wait for camp and your daily coverage. Your insight and vantage point covering the Chiefs is second to none!

Yeah…it’s not Herm’s half-assed practices anymore, boys. Time to get to work.

    I like it.

Glad to hear that Haley is at least indirectly pointing out that these guys weren’t worked hard enough last year. The results showed it.

The closer we get to the draft, the more convinced I am that the Chiefs will not take Aaron Curry. I think it’s either Jason Smith or Monroe, OR, if Stafford falls to 3, they either trade down or they draft Stafford anyway and trade him later in the day. Similar to what San Diego did when they traded Eli Manning to the Giants for Rivers and a few picks including a future 1st. Pioli is tricky, if Stafford is there, he’ll get a boatload of compensation from somebody one way or the other. If not, he’ll take an immensely talented left tackle to protect his big investment….Cassel.

I knew Herm was a buddy-buddy coach, but i didn’t appreciate just how soft he was. Last week we had players saying “we can’t get away with stuff anymore” and stuff like that. Now even Haley lets one slip

I notice the author didn’t report how long the team worked out, curious if it was “just under two hours” as was reported by Bob all last season.

Another curiosity is, how many times will Haley elect to practice indoors “due to inclement weather”.
    LMAO!

Man up Boy’s! No more sissy assed practices.
    Welcome to the Real NFL!

It’s about time a coach made these guys earn their money. I also LOVED Pioli’s comments at the press conference about players don’t decide where they play. The contract owner does. Shut up & play Gonzo, Waters & LJ. You owe the Chiefs, not the other way around. You’ve taken the money & signed a contract.

How come someone had to to take Rins spot when there is so much to be excited about? Do you see how happy Pioli and Haley are? They obviously love working together and having fun working, whih just makes them work harder. Herm and Carl always looked like they would rather eat a crap sandwich than work together! GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THe right 53 and in Hayoli we trust!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Bob!, As Always, I have to thank you for these updates, once camp comes, you are as close to inside info as it gets, and even these updates with a bit of insight is always nice, such as franklin with no special teams contribution etc.

Every time he speaks I love Todd Haley that much more as head coach of the chiefs…this is my kind of guy, old school at heart in work ethic, tough, and a heck of a scouting background….there is just too much to list.

I dont agree with those who feel that Haley is being too harsh on guys 5 LB’s overweight or whatnot….High School W, they make you drop down to exact weight, if football players are paid millions of dollars, then they SHOULD be in peak physical condition at all times…I used to work out at Fitness Quest 10 run by at the time, a just starting out Todd Durkin, after awhile LT began working out there, and that man, Tomlinson, is always in the gym, is always early, giving 110 percent. That is why he has been so successful individually.

Yes….seriously…..the way you type is annoying. It takes far too much effort to read most of your posts to make it worth it. It’s much better to just skip to the next post. I bet most people skip your posts….or come away not having much of a clue what you said. I bet you are capable of typing a normal sentence that everyone can easily understand….you know….with punctuation and words actually spelled out properly. Why you don’t is anybody’s guess. Maybe you can’t spell words like “you” and “Look”. Your browser probably has spell check to help you out. If this hurts your feelings….well…too bad….its the truth. You can change it if you want to. If not….well….I usually won’t be reading. Please don’t respond if you are going to type gibberish….nobody will understand and it will be a waste of space. Thank you.

Just rub some desitin diaper lotion on your little aggravated… and it will feel better in the morning. Remember this site is for grown ups so you need to ask your mommy before you try to type any more. Go take your nap and believe me when I say we won’t miss you.
So we had a good practice!!!! And now we are on the road to recovery and many W’s and not so many L’s!!!!!!! Hail to the Chiefs!!

It is all about the TEAM……….and……….
