Living With The Changes … Thursday Cup O’Chiefs
Derrick Johnson turned and saw that he was about to be swallowed by television cameras, microphones and notebooks. He sighed. He knew why they were there.
“I want to be out there more right now,” Johnson said. “I’m working my way up.”
Welcome again to Todd Haley’s wonderful world of the depth chart. It’s one thing when a piece of paper comes out and lines up football players on first, second and third teams.
It’s quite another when that depth chart comes to life on the field. For the Chiefs defense, that means that Johnson is not in the starting lineup; he’s been a starter since the first game of his rookie season in 2005. For the Chiefs defense, that means Jarrad Page is not in the opening group; he’s been the full-time starter at free safety since the opening game of his second season in 2007.
That appears to be the defensive plan for the regular-season opener this weekend in Baltimore.
This is unfamiliar territory for both Johnson and Page. The last time the linebacker wasn’t a full-time starter was his freshman season at Texas in 2001. Page started all four seasons at UCLA and only in that NFL rookie season was he forced to watch.
When asked what was going on with him, Johnson stammered a bit and said, “I don’t know.”
Has anything been said to him? “No,” Johnson replied. “I just go out there and sometimes I’m on the first team, sometimes I’m on the second team.”
Has he asked any questions about what’s going on? “No I haven’t,” he said.
Why not?
“I’m confident that they’ll make the right decision,” Johnson said. “They’ll figure it out … “I’m a football player, that’s what I do. I don’t do any coaching. My job when I get out there is to make plays.”
Page has seen his buddy at safety Bernard Pollard released over the weekend, and he chooses his words carefully.
“I don’t know,” Page said when asked about his situation. “The depth chart changes all the time. We are all just going out and practicing, and whoever is out there is just trying to make plays to win the football game.”
But doesn’t the demotion indicate some sort of problem?
“I don’t pay attention to it,” said Page. “I guess it could affect some guys but I don’t really let it bother me. You go out and practice and play in the games and the best players get out on the field. It shouldn’t change the way you approach the game. If something is going to make you work harder, then you were just trying to get by initially, and I don’t try to just get by.
“Every time you step on the field whether practice or a game, you should be trying to be the best. You should want to be the best. I don’t think it changes the way you approach practice or the game.
“My work ethic doesn’t change based on the depth chart.”
Just what the defensive changes mean at this point remains cloudy. Is Haley sending a message to Johnson and Page? If so, what’s the intention? Will they have a chance to work their way back in a starting role, or will it take an injury to get them back on the field?
Johnson and Page will wait and see.
“I realize what he’s trying to do,” Page said. “As we go on through the games and the practices, he’ll know more about us and we’ll know more about him. He will find something out about everybody on this team and he will find out the guys he can count on.”
Johnson says it’s not something he’s worried about, although the pained expression on his face as he talks indicates otherwise.
“I just want to win,” he said. “This is the last year of my contract and it’s time to start winning. That’s the main focus to win first and hopefully I can be a big part of it. I’m not discouraged. I know I can play this game. I know I’m the starter to be. I’ll be out there playing.”
SIGNINGS, TRADES, INJURIES & MOVEMENT AROUND THE LEAGUE
BRONCOS – signed OLB Mario Haggan to a two-year contract extension.
DOLPHINS – activated OT Nate Garner from practice squad.
JETS – signed DE Mike DeVito to a three-year contract extension.
FROM THE PAGES OF CHIEFS HISTORY
On September 10, 1960, the Dallas Texans played the first game in franchise history, losing to the Los Angeles Chargers 21-20 in a Saturday night game at the Los Angeles Coliseum. (More details later today.)
On September 10, 1977, the Chiefs beat the St. Louis Cardinals 37-20 in a pre-season game at Arrowhead Stadium. K Jan Stenerud had three FGs, hitting from 49, 27 and 35 yards. RB Tony Reed had a three-yard TD run and QB Tony Adams threw a pair of touchdown passes, going 14 yards to WR Henry Marshall and 63 yards to TE Walter White. CB Gary Green returned an interception 81 yards for a TD. Reed finished the game with 14 carries for 68 yards and Adams was five for 11 for 134 yards and the 2 TD passes.
On September 10, 1961, the Texans lost their season opener to the San Diego Chargers 26-10 at the Cotton Bowl. A crowd of 24,500 saw the Chargers jump to a 12-0 lead at half-time and they never trailed in the second half. San Diego RB Paul Lowe got the first TD with an 87-yard run. QB Bob Laraba scored on a one-yard run and WR Bo Roberson hit the end zone with a 59-yard run. All the Texans points came from RB Jack Spikes, who scored on a 74-yard run, kicked the PAT and also made a 27-yard FG. Spikes finished with 109 yards on seven carries. QB Cotton Davidson was seven of 16 for 78 yards and three INTS.
On September 10, 1978, the Chiefs lost their home opener to the Houston Oilers 20-17 at Arrowhead Stadium. Just 41,754 fans turned out and they saw RB Earl Campbell lead the Oilers on a fourth-quarter comeback. Campbell scored on TD runs of one and two yards in the final period and finished the game with 111 yards on 22 carries. The Chiefs had built a 17-6 lead going into the fourth, thanks to the running game sparked by RB Tony Reed. He had a 19-yard TD run and finished the game with 141 yards on 16 carries. RB Ted McKnight added a three-yard TD run and K Jan Stenerud had a 41-yard FG. QB Mike Livingston was just nine of 14 for 60 yards and a big interception. Houston S Bill Currier grabbed the pick in the fourth quarter and that set up the first of the two Campbell TD runs.
On September 10, 1989, the Chiefs lost the season opener to the Denver Broncos 34-20 at Mile High Stadium. It was the first game of the Carl Peterson-Marty Schottenheimer Era and it started very poorly as the Broncos jumped to a 17-0 first quarter lead. The Chiefs scored 13 straight points to get back in the game, keyed by a one-yard scoring run by RB Kenny Gamble. K Nick Lowery had field goals of 41 and 23 yards. But Denver QB John Elway threw a nine-yard TD pass to RB Steve Sewell and K David Treadwell nailed a 29-yard FG. A five-yard TD pass from QB Steve DeBerg to WR Carlos Carson cut the lead again, but the Broncos got their second interception return for a TD in the game, as S Randy Robbins took a pick back 18 yards. S Tyrone Braxton had a 34-yard INT return for a touchdown in the first quarter.
SAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY …
Born on September 10, 1950 in Gainesville, Alabama was DT Junious “Buck” Buchanan. He was the first player selected in the 1963 AFL Draft out of Grambling. Buchanan would play 13 seasons with the Chiefs (1963-75), appearing in 182 regular season games and seven games in the playoffs. At 6-7, 270 pounds, he ran a surprising 10.2 in the 100-yard dash. Over his career he was named to the AFL All-Star Game or Pro Bowl eight times. Buchanan was enshrined in the Chiefs Hall of Fame in 1981, the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996. Buchanan passed away after a long battle with cancer on July 16, 1992 in Kansas City.
Born on September 10, 1946 in Dumas, Arkansas was WR Jimmy Hines. He joined the Chiefs in 1970 and played one game for the team. Hines played 10 games for the Dolphins in the 1969 season. He’s better known as the first sprinter to break 10 seconds in the 100-meter dash. He won two gold medals at the 1968 Summer Olympic Games in Mexico City. Hines time of 9.95 seconds was the world record for 15 years.
Born on September 10, 1957 in Hanford, California was RB Jewerl Thomas. He joined the Chiefs in 1983 coming to the team from the Rams in a trade that sent QB Steve Fuller and CB Eric Harris to Los Angeles. Thomas played in 10 games, with one start. He carried the ball 44 times for 115 yards and caught 10 passes for 51 yards.
Born on September 10, 1966 in Galveston, Texas was FB Kimble Anders. He joined the Chiefs in 1991 and played 10 seasons with the team (1991-2000), appearing in 125 games, with 94 starts. Anders carried the ball 490 times for 2,261 yards and nine TDs and caught 369 passes for 2,829 yards and nine TDs. He was named to the Pro Bowl three times (1995-97).
Born on September 10, 1966 in Granada Hills, California was TE Ted Popson. He joined the Chiefs in 1997 after three seasons playing with the 49ers. Popson spent two years in Kansas City (1997-98), appearing in 25 games, with 13 starts. He caught 48 passes for 410 yards and two TDs.
Born on September 10, 1975 in Fontana, California was S Sammy Knight. He joined the Chiefs as a free agent in 2005, after eight seasons in the league with the Saints and Dolphins. Knight played two seasons with the Chiefs (2005-06), starting all 32 games where he wore the red and gold. He had three interceptions with the Chiefs.
I would imagine that a lackadaisical approach to practice and preparation is why these two find themselves down the depth chart.
Haley has made it more than clear the kind of effort he demands from players. But after 3 years of Club Herm where jobs were handed out on whim and by reputation instead of being earned I’d imagine some players haven’t seen the light yet.
The Chiefs haven’t won a playoff game since 1993. Let that sink in a moment. Teams such as the Steelers and Patriots do things in a much different way than any of these players, sans a small handful, are used to. They’ll either get with the program or be gone, and I’m fine with that.
Haley/Pendergast don’t appear to be operating without purpose and they don’t appear to be mean for the fun of it. If Paige and DJ have gone to their coaches looking for ways to improve and were rebuked, that wouldn’t make sense. Assuming they have some clue as to their professional deficiencies, I hope they dig in and prove they should start. DJ does have long periods where he disappears. And, he shows flashes that would indicate he’s the most talented player on the roster. Haley wants consistency.
When DJ was demoted and wasn’t practicing, you/Bob mentioned there was no apparent injury. My assumption was there was something he did we’ll never know about. Until we learn otherwise, I’ll give the coaches the benefit of the doubt.
I trust that the coaches know what they are doing. Just because a player may be popular or stand out does not mean they will be playing Sunday. Obviously our coaches know what they are looking for and have not found enough of it in DJ. I’m not shocked by his demotion….whether temporary or permanent. Nobody should consider their position secure on this team. We already saw this same kind of thing with Bowe. Consistent results are what is required.
Well to me this should have been done prior to this year, of course I’m bias as a Longhorn fan. DJ has more in that Tank and I believe you all hit it on the head its consistancy in practice and in games and DJ hasn’t shown that and I’m guessing Paige hasn’t shown that either though I think he’s closer than DJ. They are still young and to learn this lesson early depending on how they respond to it should serve them well down the road just hope they learn it as Chiefs as they are both exceptional players and I would like to see them stay in KC.
“GO Chiefs”
I am highly anticipating the first post from the Messiah this morning!
Bob, Check Buck’s birthday again. Are you sure he was born in 1950. I remember meeting him in Liberty when I was in college and they were training at Jewell. I was born in 1951 and I am sure he was older than me. 1950 dosen’t sound right.
You are the best read every morning. Thanks.
arrowhead1978,
I know your joking maybe even trying to get a rise out of someone. I’m asking because I wouldn’t be who I am if I didn’t. Please don’t refer to anyone let alone rin tin as the Messiah. Not trying to get into it as this is a Chiefs blog, though I wonder somedays, just asking.
Thanks!
Chris,
You didn’t ask one question during your whole post, so I’m not sure what you were asking.
agree Chris_Texas and thanks for saying it.
Players having to EARN their starting spots. What a novel idea!
DJ: “My job when I get out there is to make plays.”
And when he starts doing his job on a consistant basis…he’ll probably find himself starting. He simply hasn’t done it yet.
Page: “My work ethic doesn’t change based on the depth chart.”
Ummm…maybe it SHOULD, Jarrad. That’s probably why you’re not starting. You don’t deserve to.
Personally, I believe Page when he says it isn’t a motivation or work ethic issue, because Page has always been an extremely hard worker, extremely diligent.
I think in Page’s case, he picked up too many bad habits in the previous regime. Too many breakdowns by the front seven left Page trying to do too much. He didn’t always stay with his assignment if he saw a play developing and the front guys not getting it done.
But that’s lack of discipline. You may make some plays, but when you freelance, you also give up back-breaking big plays.
So Page has to learn to trust the system and the other players. That means he needs to work his way up as he learns to show he can and will play with discipline, and play within the scheme.
That quote from Page jumped out at me too. I am sure he meant he already has a “strong” work ethic, but apparently his idea of a stong work ethic differs from his coaches.
While I do like what the coaching staff is doing in general…it would serve them better if they spoke to the players about what they need to do to succeed in their eyes. DJ could be doing something he thinks is the “Chief’s Way”, but it might be the old way and contrary to the new coaching staff.
Also, since it is defense, I am willing to bet this is not just a Haley deal…I am betting Clancy is making this call.
Chris…good point…people need to realize this is JUST A GAME PLAYED BY YOUNG ADULTS. In the grand scheme of things, not that big of a deal.
Go Chiefs!
Please arrowhead1978….please don’t bring up RTT or his other personalities until after he shows up. It’s bad enough that he comes around here….let’s not think about him any more than we have to ok?
Are you guys serious? Rin is the reason this site exists!
Well, I look at it like this…
If I was on the 2nd or 3rd team, and I wanted to start…I wouldn’t publicly say that my work ethic wasn’t going to change.
Bob says that “he chooses his words carefully”? That wasn’t too careful, if you ask me. And I doubt if that’s what the coaches wanted to hear.
In every organization there are people who are just happy to be there. You end up with 2-14 seasons, just glad to be there. Bowe figured it out but Page and DJ did not. Just stand around, be the vet, and do the minimum. These two are just not smart enough to see the new adm. is going to want something different. There abilities not withstanding, get with the program or ride the pines. Maybe Haley will change things for the better in the long run.
In addition to work ethic, technique is not good with either of these guys. Both are playmakers, but neither is dependable on the one-on-one tackle.
Page isn’t one for contact at all. DJ makes a lot of arm tackles. Not what you want from an ILB.
Rin is like a daily hurricane. You know it’s coming…but you can’t stop it. But, at least you KNOW it’s coming…and can either evacuate the area or ride out the storm.
“Welcome again to Todd Haley’s wonderful world of the depth chart.”
- like Disney’s, we have our own figment (of his own) imagination nee a Mickey Mouse too KC… he roars like a lion – but as the record shows just squeaks when held up to the light for perusal.
In a word, ‘confusion’ Derrick, Page. From the mind of cometh said – and mind game too. Alas, if scarecrow only had a brain…
The ever vacillating depth chart but reflection – man in the mirror a nutshell- self doubt as being in over the head – right… ‘check’ The sobering effects of 0-4 too knocking him down a few rungs the ladder and taking the IQ far from the genius range & closer football idiot, sans savant.
Just as he discovered that BW was correct and had to genuflect knee and too nee mea culpas aplenty, same with his “any 22 will do” scat came back to render him but a joke in the eyes of his players, the football astute & Chiefs fandom … ‘fandumb’ still being impressed as it were.
The players here as the ones left don’t really care what has to say, because as he has shown what he says is most always proven wrong.
Players know they have 31 other teams and head coaches they can play with. At minimum victims bad coach and his equally bad scheme(s) on the field as off … at the most better for having suffered a fool, which only serve prepare them for the next ‘genius’ proven a emperor without clothes come down the turnpike.
As all roads same appear by practice to lead both into as well out of Kansas/Missouri, and based on the record that KC’s football brain trust manages to find them each & e’ery – as well the wrong man at the right time i.e., now ‘09 – the not so much indentured servants as mercenaries be NFL players willst survive. Far better football men an and a have tried and failed…twill be no different these 2 newest nee latest greatest flav – o – faves the moment…
&
If you were demoted at work …..wouldn’t you ask what you had done wrong??????? Neither of these guys…… seem they want too know……..Why not!!!!!!!!Haley has repeatedly said not the best athlete but consistently doesn’t make mistakes.PnS
And of course we all know Haley is infallible in his ways.
Praise the Lord! The Messiah is with us!
All of you guys make great points and are right on the money with your thoughts about Johnson and Paige. For the most part. They know why there in the position they’re in. Its just not something they want to discuss with the media. I’m thinking like everyone else its just about being consistent. Remember how Haley says he didn’t want yo-yo players. Thats the problem. Everyone know both guys are exceptional athletes, but Haley is looking for that every Sunday. Of course everyone has a bad game or even a bad practice, but not a mixture of bad games and bad practices.
Hope these guys realize this isn’t Herm/Peterson regime. No one is going to be a starter based on talent or draft status. Its going to be based on what Haley sees on the field, which is something else Haley once said. Until these guys start to get it like Bowe did, their going to find themselves at the bottom of the depth chart. Lets be real about it like Bowe we need these guys to be more consistent in order for us to win. No need of having all that talent on your team if you can’t consistently get it out of them week in and week out.
Well I agree with most of this Scott very well put. The references to doing it the old way not so sure about. Flowers, Albert, Hali and others jumped in and have improved themselves. You look at what they did; Flowers we had the post yesterday, Albert dropped some weight added new moves and did things to get better and Hali did the extra work and Haley commented during camp that he was watching tons of tape on guys in his new position, did this on HIS OWN, trying to figure it out and what these guys are doing is what all of them need to do. Raise your level of play. DJ and Paige while good and have great athletic ability have not pushed themselves to be better than they are at least obviously it hasn’t shown. Haley and company are not a coach’s that will accept status quo.
And to all you guys that don’t like Rin. Hey just don’ read his post. You don’t have to respond to what he’s saying. You know he’s bias toward 6 and 26 record Herm Edwards. So it doesn’t matter how well Haley does. Rin is going to be biased. He’s more a Herm Edwards fan than a Chiefs fan you guys have to realize that. So just skip his comments and only respond to everyone else comments like I do. Thats why Rin comments doesn’t bother me.
Jody says:
“And of course we all know Haley is infallible in his ways.”
No, we don’t. We really don’t know a damn thing. NONE of us do. Because results on the field are the measuring stick…and Haley has neither won, nor lost a game yet.
If we make improvements this year…then I’d say he’s doing a good job. If we don’t? Then I’ll be the first to admit his “way” isn’t working. But we simply don’t know at this point.
Agreed Chris. DJ and Paige needs to follow Hali, Flowers, and Albert lead. Play at a high level consistently and all the time. I mean look at even Demmario ever since coming off the injury reseve this summer he’s got on board with what the guys expect out of him.
0-4
UT is the reason dj is a bust – blame them
Jody,
Shut the EFF up. Thanks.
If the player is not asking why?? am I on the #3 def. then he probably knows why. Change is good, if you do the same thing over and over, yet expect different results that is stupid. Change is good to get the results you need.
Remember it is ALL about the TEAM, and the right 53!
In coach Haley I trust!
(you should too.)
Lassie,
31 other coaches? Is there collusion on keeping Barry on practice squad? Perhaps the league realizes that the players left to the new regime are inferior to what the league wide talent level is. Although I suppose that is the fault of Scott and Todd, they should have called ahead to have better players waiting. “Any 22″? Were you there to hear the quote? Perhaps you need to understand, if he made the statement, he will not settle for any 22, but the best he can get. It is and will be a long process to return to the playoffs, afterall, you weren’t this big of a jerk at birth, you worked at it.
Anonymous,
Hold your tongue!
Blake Thomas -
Buck was born in 1940 and not 1950; otherwise, he would’ve been 13 years old when he became a Chief in ‘63. THAT would’ve made Joe Nuxhall a relic at age 15, Amobi Okoye decrepit at 20…
Cookie Gilchrist was actually signed at age 18 by Paul Brown of the Cleveland Browns, in 1953 (this was against NFL rules/Cookie never playing a game with the Browns, though he later did in the CFL & AFL.)
“1950 dosen’t sound right.”
- but “doesn’t” 1940 work out swell for Buck!
“You are the best read every morning. Thanks.”

- 31 other teams – was there collusion in keeping a career assistant? ‘Tis a matter the same way took 14 years of being a footshuffling NFL porter nee golfer- sorry, a natural mistake – ‘gofer’ & assistant coach, so too et al all those on NFL practice squads. As Barry has been on said but three days now to ‘check’s decade and a half wandering the football wilderness, the ’slcaker’ if you will be the one wearing the not so glib tongue and the nervous countenance
“Perhaps the league realizes that the players left to the new regime are inferior to what the league wide talent level is.”
- no need to bring Vermeil into this and sully his name…

bravo, Rin, bravo!
Page & Johnson in Todd Haley’s eyes are indicative of the Chiefs failures the last few years. Are they veterans? Yes. Have they been consistent starters? Yes. Did they assume they would be starters this year? Yes.
Therein lies the problem Coach Haley has with these two guys. They assumed they would be patted on the back, complimented & reserved the biggest steak for dinner. No, No, No. Like mentioned before, Dwayne Bowe used to be one of these guys. He does’nt assume anything now. He wants to be the best, everyday. Maybe he wants to be famous, maybe he wants a bigger & better contract when his current one expires. Whatever his motives, it is working now.
All I know is, even if some of the most talented players are not starters, they are not the “right starters” to help us win ballgames. Page & Johnson can decide for themselves what they want to do. It is their decision & their decision only. I agree with Scott, Todd Haley is the coach & for now I agree with his approach & on his side of the court.
Sunday will be an exciting time at my house. Go Chiefs…
I think Buck might have been able to make the Pro-Bowl at 13.
“- and why not blame them – Chiefsfandumb blamed Herm and Carl for everything…”
Beacuse Herm had THREE YEARS to do it “his way”. We all know the results…although 99% of us see it for what it was – total failure. Talk about “rose colored glasses”.
Haley and Pioli have not put their team on the field for one single game that counts. Most of us are willing to give them a chance. If you don’t…then that’s your problem.
And by the way…as a Chiefs fan, I take great offense to the “Chiefsfandumb” comments. Kiss my ass. If you’re not a Chiefs fan, then get the hell out of here…and leave us REAL fans alone. You want to debate something? Then make a valid point. Bring it on. But, I’m not going to keep letting you call Chiefs fans “dumb” without saying something.
Scott said “If we make improvements this year…then I’d say he’s doing a good job. If we don’t? Then I’ll be the first to admit his “way” isn’t working. But we simply don’t know at this point.”
Uhhh….Scott…..if we go 3-13 you can say we improved…..is that going to be enough for you?
Leave my Scottie alone Harold C. …the boy’s not ‘right (53)’ in the head…
Lassie,
Did the Chiefs ever go 0-4 in the preseason before this year? Who was the coach? Did you call for his head then? 0-16 this season? That would only be a drop of two games from last year, did the math for you, it could happen, it did happen to a team last year. But, not this year, not this team, not this duo of Scott and Todd. So put down you Herm banner, and join the party. We will let the runt of the litter join in, if you play nice. If not, well the rolled up newspaper is close, just like the house breaking days. Quit whimpering your owner will be home to let you out soon.
Scott said: “And by the way…as a Chiefs fan, I take great offense to the “Chiefsfandumb” comments.”

I agree Scott….RTT does not sound like a Chiefs fan. He is also not readable. Reading his stuff is like trying to read chicken-scratch written with a marker that bleeds and has been soaked in water overnight. I skip all his posts…..but yet I still find him annoying. But I should say something nice about RTT…..hmmmm…..well…….I guess what I love about RTT coming here is that I don’t have to read what he says. The old mouse wheel gets a lot of work when he shows up….along with his little alter egos.
talk about hijacking a thread….hopefully bob does ban his arse like he said in the other thread
anyway, regarding dj again
Talk about a sense of entitlement.
It was like he wasn’t the problem and that it was the coaches who were and that he didn’t need to improve with anything.
during one practice the media was reporting that the coaches were getting on his ass. When they interviewed him he acted like the practice was fine and he was were he needed to be bla bla bla. Like I don’t give a **** I am getting paid no matter what.
Anything less than a super bowl win is unacceptable but only one team makes that each year. So what is acceptable? A team unlike the garbage herm put on the field last year? Yeah, that is good enough for me. I wanted herm gone after he got hired and it is to bad he lasted 3 years to further crush this once proud franchise.
just another of herm’s failed draft picks – did we get anyone good (besides maybe flowers and possibly albert) from the herm era?
tick tock tick tock
Rocky freakin boiman was a starter here
’nuff said
One thing we might also look at is with Haley putting these guys as well as others is this. Getting these guys coming in on rotation and trying to get the starting position hopefully these guys will do what it takes to start and those that are starting in there place try to do the things to keep there jobs. Thus the coaching staff is getting better play from the top to the bottom of the depth chart. ummm.. not a bad idea as well the others that see this may relize hey I better stay on my p’s and q’s and raise my level of play so I can keep or earn a starting position.
Herm = 1 year to rebuild, 2008 – not three
End of 2008 presser(s)-
Media: “Do you think you’ll be back Herm?”
Herm: “I expect to be back.”
Media: “Clark?”
Clark: “I hope Herm comes back.”
Conclusion: Herm’s comin’ back…or, failing said, become:

Harold C. says:
“Uhhh….Scott…..if we go 3-13 you can say we improved…..is that going to be enough for you?”
No. I wouldn’t be happy with that. But, I want to see our team play with intensity again. I want to see us hit some people in the mouth. I want to see our guys play like they care about winning. I do NOT want to see our team quit. I want to see our team become the type of team that other teams DON’T want to play…instead of treating us like an “automatic” win or a bye week. I want to see us shed the league laughingstock tag. All these things I’ve seen our team become the past three years. I don’t want to see it anymore. EVER. And THAT is what I’m talking about as “improvement”. If we can do those things…the wins will come.
Analonymous said
“But, not this year, not this team, not this duo of Scott and Todd.”
- famous last words, as in “yeah baby, you ‘tried’.”
Lemme know/wake me when you throw your first real punch nee salvo at Rin Tin Tin…
&
Scottie cried
“I take great offense to the “Chiefsfandumb” comments. Kiss my ass.”
- my my my…Rin doth believe someone hath a VERY guilty conscience – justifiably so…
heh heh heh!

Lassie,
What is funniest, is every poster here is better than you, and you do not realize it. Was the bus as short as they say?
D.J. makes plays, every once in awhile. From the start, the new regime has said they wanted consistancy. I think he will see plenty of snaps, and might earn his starting spot back quickly.
It’s simple retard, let me break it down for you. Herm wins all of two games last year, after a season where he wins four games – not a single team in the league will put up with that kind of EMBARRASSMENT
ORAMIWRONG>
Last two years, Chiefs win six times, Lions win seven times. Enough said.
Rin Tin Tin says:
“- my my my…Rin doth believe someone hath a VERY guilty conscience – justifiably so…”
No. I just don’t like it when someone INSULTS the Chiefs fanbase by calling us “dumb”…like you keep doing. Any fan of any team would be insulted as well, I’m guessing. And if being a fan of the Chiefs makes me “dumb”…then I guess I’ll die one stupid motherf***er. And be damn proud of it. So as I said before, kiss my ass.
Harold C (but more so than see he doo doo himself via his own device); to wit, though he hath none -
“Reading his stuff is like trying to read chicken-scratch written with a marker that bleeds and has been soaked in water overnight. I skip all his posts.”
- he defines said – in detail – and yet, denies familiarity with said…a Freudian slip if e’er Harold wore one – and he does, daily…
By his/others definition, the only Chiefs fans be those that model Norman Vincent Peale eyewear…
Nyet, blind allegiance be not fandom, be the road to ruin nee Perdition! At 0-4 we are well on the way! Lucifer & Beelzebub at the reigns – more so Beedlebums x2…
Analonymous, why does Larry hate you so?
it’s not freudian retard – read some freud you pompous, flamboyant, pretentious idiot and then maybe you’ll know wht the hell you’re talking about
Lassie,
Messiah? Lucifer? Beelzebub? Is this a theology thread or football? Bad doggie, bad doggie.
And when Rin has them, he really has them.
Analonymous, why does Larry hate you so?
What are you 12 years old? You think this is clever? Th eonly thing worse than a pompous fool is one who THINKS he is funny
But I’d bet reality confirms everything said about the retard, otherwise he wouldn’t put so much time and effort into disrupting what was a pretty good conversation on this board, let alone all the hours accumulated from month after month of his superficial analysis
Not have a lot of friends eh rin? Me thinks you may be wired backwards…..
Now Analonymous cousin Larry is e’en talking to himself, swinging at his own shadow…be a case as (another) comedian Jackie Mason talked about several years ago.
“I (Larry) was boxing this guy who was far better than me (Rin Tin Tin), I was giving him my famous “1-5 – 1-5″ combinations. Unfortunately, he was hitting me with 2s, 3s and 4s…”
The winner by KNOCKOUT, and still WORLD CHAMPION – Rin Tin Tin!!!
Scottie cried once more
“I just don’t like it when someone INSULTS the Chiefs fanbase by calling us “dumb””
- well if the size 2 hat fits…
“if being a fan of the Chiefs makes me “dumb”…then I guess I’ll die one stupid motherf***er.”
- he was always such a good (if gullible) boy…

I fully expect Dj and Page 2 be starting real soon, I get that Haley is trying 2 push them but Mcgraw …..please…he has more mental and physical break downs than Page will ever have! Go Chiefs in 2009 and Beyond!!!!!!!!

truth hurts yes? Never play football eh?
Lassie,
Wikipedia, check it on the internet, the encyclopedia that anyone can edit. Warning do not use this as a resource in obediance school homework most instructors at puppy school will not allow it. Short bus for puppies, gotta love it. G
Larry says:
“Never play football eh?”
No. Only with himself.
hey retard
Hey re-re-tin
OP said he doesn’t read your posts, b/c they’re hard to read
does that sound like a slip of the tongue retard
does it reveal hidden subconscious thoughts?
or does it say that yes, he is familiar with your trite dribble, and yes he has read, but now he skips them?
tick tock tick tock
Rin suspects cousin Larry & Harold C. are conjoined idiots – and baby nee Analonymous makes for Siamese Triumvirate…
heh heh heh!
“No. I just don’t like it when…”
Always good to speak up…the troll’s gettin too much free food though.
“Born on September 10, 1950 in Gainesville, Alabama was DT Junious “Buck” Buchanan.”
Truly one of the best…
Dogboy,
I am glad your back…at least we know you aren’t out stalking again.
Question…do you spend the other half of your EXCITING BLOGGING LIFE on NY Jets websites loving on Herm there as well?
On another note…
I always thought it was funny how Herm would point to the success of the Bucs (AFTER he left TB) as justification for what he was doing in KC.
The Chiefs are laying the foundation…this is just part of the process. It will take time.
Go Chiefs!
Yep….the best part of RTT is that I don’t have to read RTT.
…………………………Herm who?
Lassie,
Lassie,
“Analonymous” pretty good. Who thought of it for you, bad doggie. No walk tonight.
At some point the Chiefs will actually play a game that counts and that will shut up a whole bunch of us.
The team will have to put players in a position to win. I am not a program matters not the players kind of guy. How Haley handles this will tell the tale. If he tries to make square pegs in round hole, the Chiefs will lose and he will be fired. If he is flexible, like Chan going to shotgun when the QB left was Thigpen in 08, he may survive to be a long term answer as a Headcoach. Time will tell.
My only disappointment so far is the lack of interest by Pioli to acquire help at OL. The guys he brought in have shown to be scrubs and never was’. This lack of action could be costly in terms of time for the team to develope for the future and that superbowl we all want.
“Brak said

Remember that old adage “once you go black you’ll never go back?” Like I’m totally the wrong man for the job, and, like he, if I had any sense of decency at all would resign. But as – like him – I don’t, we’ll both try and survive these next four years…Rin help us all by way your comedy.
Thank you, and from the O-4val Ivory Tower House as Arrowhead now gone dark for/4years, goodnight.”
“The Chiefs are laying the foundation”
- 0-4…
“this is just part of the process.”
- the highpoint before the 0-16 fall…
“It will take time.”
- no two-minute egg’0’s here…more so a fallen soufflé portending this forthcoming 0-20 course more so ‘coarse’ meal… a catered affair to be certain, an upside down cake by any other…oh, woe is and be to we Chiefsfandumbs, e’ery…
I have to say that there are a handful of blogs worth reading today,…….the rest were written by Rin Turd Turd. About a year ago this was a good place to express your opinions with other intelligent CHIEFS fans, then along came Rin Turd Turd. Now there is so much wasted energy scrolling past RTT’s BS. I still like to read the intelligent posts from new and old Colby, are you still logging on?
It is all about the……….TEAM……….and
The RIGHT 53 !
In coach Haley I trust!!
(you should too)
Bobby Wade should definitely be on the Chiefs radar.
Yes el cid, has been (double entendre) as a sloth, lugubriousness ours be the reward…
Jason Brown OG/C was available – went to STL
Brown > > ‘Chicklets’ aka Alle’yalleyincomefree’man from MIA & our own statue, Rudy Niswanger…
OT Stacy Andrews – went to PHIL
Andrews > > ‘Clippers’ aka Npoopwe & Ryan ‘waiver wire’ O’Callagag
WRs? More heartache…
Terrell Owens – went to BUFF
Owens > > (insert ANY Chiefs WR – including Hailme’s 3rd team designee Duh-wayne Bowe; TO would have probably made Toad c**p his pants, Mr. Tuff Guy become Wimp)
Lavernues Coles – went to CIN
Coles > > ditto (’Have A Pull Can’t Play’ Bradley, Grandpa Engram, No Hands Lawrence & Terrence ‘The’ Copper ‘Clapper’)
Talk is cheap – $o too were the Chiefs this off-season. They said they want to win NOW but their action$ say something else in entirety.
Yup, Herm is STILL The Man!
heh heh heh
&
Oh…and Mike ‘The Big Goof’ Goff? Can’t forget about him…tho the Ravens will make you want to nee forget you e’er knew of him aft Sunday’s game…
Too, if it is so much about winning ‘NOW’ as the two sycophants pledge why trade a Tony Gonzalez? Retirement – yup, he’d threatened that before.
Threats are common in life – remember how the two tuff guys Egoli & Hailme said that Chiefs players had no say in anything (chests puffed up, theirs) i.e., ‘as long as they’re under contract, they’re Chiefs – period’
Really? Appears they speak with forked tongue.
If it is all about winning NOW why did Egoli NOT GET a #2 draft choice for this year- instead got nothing & have to wait until 2010? (how would a nice #2 draft choice at OG or C look now – this year – in 2009?
THAT suggests more so SCREAMS as I’ve iterated before that it is NOT about winning NOW – call these 3 Pinocchio’s (you too Jr.) at Arrowhead what they are. Lastly some advise: when Egoli & Hailme & yes Jr. are tap dancing- er, ‘talking’, don’t watch/read their lips…watch their eyes – the truth ‘lies’ there… $occer anyone? $tadium improvement$? That’s all we got in 2009…
And…the cap room just keep$ on comin’! What would be more refreshing – a nice cool glass of integrity nee reality or a big heapin’ helpin’ o’ **** ?
Money talk$, bu*l$h*t walks – Kaycee fans get the latter…drink/eat it up in 2009…
If I’m lyin’ I’m dyin; comes now the calm afore the storm…
“& our own statue, Rudy Niswanger…”
A Herm’s man chief.
“Clippers’ aka Npoopwe & Ryan ‘waiver wire’ O’Callagag”
to finish your math statement…Ndukwe/O’Callaghan > Herm’s Man Chiefs B-Rinch and Damion “Please don’t make me run” Sackintosh.
“Owens >> (Bowe)”
Another Herm’s man Chief. A great collection they inherited!
Even if the Chiefs only win 3 (a very serious possibility with this great roster), it’s more wins than the pathetic 2 they got last season. Maybe Haley really is trying to prove he can win 2 with any 22…lol…
In coach Haley I trust!!
(you should too)
For Coach Haley I root! How’s that?
In the toilet I have diarrhea!
SG said (as he side-stepped Rin’s scrupulous fact-based attack on the integrity of any/all management calls 1 Arrowhead Drive home ‘09)
“A Herm’s man chief.”
- now also a Hailme’s man…oh the irony nee humanity!
Alas, a hand-picked theirs OT Goldberg faileth, so too a C Ghiaciuc, an poor OG formerly inept OT Colin ‘BUSTer’ Brown – OG Harris too as well the aforementioned ‘Not So Great’ OG Goff…
Here is some salve and balm for your wounds SG… come back aft healing and whence you do, try (oh do ‘try’)to negate nee refute all that Rin hath said his several dollar ba$ed blog$ afore…
Canst not can you…NO!
heh heh heh!!!
&
Jason Brown – would have been a great pickup; I’d like to know if the Chiefs went after him and, if not, why not
Lavernues Coles – would be better than some of the current Chiefs receivers, but is a whiner
Stacy Andrews – coming off a serious injury and nearly as lowly-regarded by Browns fans as Ghiaciuc
Terrell Owens – overpriced, deteriorating skills, and a locker-room cancer
“If it is all about winning NOW why did Egoli NOT GET a #2 draft choice for this year- instead got nothing & have to wait until 2010?”
Because he couldn’t. The best offer Carl got last year for Gonzales was a 3rd.
This whole “winning NOW” criticism seems to be the result of selective listening, because Pioli has also said on several occasions (including at his introduction as Chiefs GM) that: a)he’s building for the long-term, and b) he’s looking for players with certain attributes, not necessarily the most talented.
“…integrity of any/all management calls 1 Arrowhead Drive home ‘09…”
It seems to hold together just fine – yet me-hopes you come up with better material for your attacks (there’s better ones to make) so you get an upgrade from your new nickname of Usama (the dude’s name is Usain Bolt). I hope that our new offensive line improves on your attempts at run and pass blocking. (Call in another health claim on the Rin-QB bcuz he just got leveled again).
Go back and read it again…and this time put your thinking outside the box hat on, Jack…
Here’s a preview:
Usama > > Usain (and Hussein too)
Get it? Got it? Good.
heh heh heh!

“Terrell Owens – overpriced, deteriorating skills, and a locker-room cancer”

“Rin’s Andy Roddick to your Bill Kurtis!”
Oh, if only life were like a TV commercial; or, better yet, like the little battles that play out in your head.
Quick Top 7 countdown to the kickoff:
7) Jersey number of the guy we hope will be healthy enough to lead the Chiefs offense against the Ravens.
6) Jersey number of the guy who’ll be instrumental in any potential upset of the Ravens (e.g. 22-21 KC win).
5) Number of 100-yard rushing games expected by LJ this season.
4) The quarter in which the Chiefs won’t fold like an accordion (as opposed to what happened in 2008).
3) Number of wins that would be an improvement over the painful 2008 season.
2) Round of the pick we traded for two players (Cassel and Vrabel – both upgrades over predecessors). Also round of the pick in 2010 we got in trade for Tony Gonzalez, our #1 safety valve on offense.
1) One season too many for certain coaches whose name rhymes with GERMAN.
hey re-re-tin, figure out what a freudian slip is yet? Just checking…
