Chiefs Make 14 Moves To Reach 53

The Chiefs reached the NFL regular-season roster limit of 53 players on Saturday afternoon. But don’t bet on that the same 53 will be the group that gets ready to play the Baltimore Ravens next Sunday in the ‘09 oepner.

There’s a good chance a few more bodies may come off and onto the roster as the Chiefs sift through today’s waivers in search of players that are better than what they currently have on the roster.

Among the moves, there was one surprise: the Chiefs released SS Bernard Pollard. In his fourth season out of Purdue, Pollard was a second-round draft choice in 2006. He had been the starter at that spot since 2007, and worked all through the pre-season as the starter. Not until this past week was he removed from the lineup, replaced by veteran S Mike Brown.

Fifth-round draft choice G/T Colin Brown was placed on the injured-reserve list, ending his season.

Otherwise there were really no surprises. Veteran ILB Zach Thomas was released; he’s spent most of training camp and pre-season trying to comeback from an injury. WR Ashley Lelie was released as well.

Sent to waiver wire were first-year players NT Derke Lokey and WR Rodney Wright.

The only draft choice to be released was seventh-round RB Javarris Williams.

Also released were undrafted college free agents CB Jackie Bates, WR Taurus Johnson, DE Bobby Greenwood, DE Dion Gales, TE Tom Crabtree, G Darryl Harris and S Ricky Price.

We will have more later today and tomorrow on the Chiefs roster and preparations for the Ravens.

Of the 14 cuts, 11 more are the hand-picked “any 22s” courtesy the comedy duo of & – their Chiefs not good enuf, whereas Herm’s be!

This IS Herm Edwards 2009 Kansas City Chiefs!

Currently 60% of the 2009 53 man roster Chiefs are Herm Chiefs! 32 Herm’s only 21 ’search’ & ‘check’ men – eheh eheh eheh!

    “Hey Herm?”

    “Yeah Rin?”

    “I’m a pickin’!”

    “And I’m a grinnin’!”

& “Heh heh heh heh heh heh heh!!!”

    - AND – just as Rin stated, WR Devard Darling’s injury allows ‘Q’ tip to sneak onto the team as the 53-rd & LAST Chief – Rin wins AGAIN!

  • September 5, 2009  - Uncuffed says:

Pollard was always overrated b/c he started. But you know what, Herm never brought in any competition, so his value was a little overrated. He made a lot of mistakes in the field. Still, it seems like he would have been a good backup….

  • September 5, 2009  - alex k says:

uhhhh Rin, the most surprising cut was who?

OH right…a herm pick in the EARLY second round…

    awesome!

Brown’s still on the team. Williams is the only draft pick to be cut… so far.

  • September 5, 2009  - skandaluz33 says:

I could have sworn Lelie was the 3rd best receiver we had, somethings gotta be in the works… Pollard is a shocker though, he would have at the very least been good trade bait.

  • September 5, 2009  - skandaluz33 says:

Hope Mike Brown can stay healthy this year!

  • September 5, 2009  - Mark says:

Pollard was clearly a “statement” cut. Maybe Pioli is still made at him taking Brady out? He had an argument with Clancy last week, and Haley threw him off the field. That was the end. I think it’s a mistake. He can play, and Brown looked done. At worst, Pollard is a very god special teams plyer, so something happened that wan’t totally football related. Sorry to see Lelie go, but glad Zach was cut. Goff should have been also. Turk, Gilberry, Gutierrez, Cottam, and Walters better only rent, because they are likely gone soon.
We BETTER not pick up Tyree. He’s not even close to an acceptable WR.

  • September 5, 2009  - Rin Tin Tin says:

Last years all 12 Chiefs draft choices made the team – this year & have ALREADY axed 2 of their own “hand-picked” choices from the 53 man.

Come 2010 – when ’search’ & ‘check’ are fired & a new GM/Head Coach replace them those remaining of their draft picks will be gone- all ‘cept for ‘Q’ tip of course, for he’ll be cut the next few days as soon as KC signs his replacement.

2008 Herm draft pick failure rate: 0%/100% success

2009 & 28% BUSTS before the season has even begun.

Upshot: even aft all their huffin/puffin/cuttin, of Herm’s 2008 draft class – 67% are still here! And only 71% 2009’s are: BEFORE THE SEASON EVEN STARTS with more cuts (see ya ‘Q’) to come very soon now!

    “You STILL da man Herm!’

    “You got that right Rin!”

& “Heh heh heh heh heh heh heh!!!”

Jags released Tony Pashos, I hope Scott pays him 4mil to get us a good RT.

  • September 5, 2009  - Rin Tin Tin says:

Replacing almost ‘half’? You’d better work on your calculator Simon; it’s simple really (you been assisting Obuma the unemployment numbers have you?)

    80 men went to camp 2009 – 32 Herm men remain, 21 Patriot Way’ers.

    11 Herm’s Chiefs gone since 2009 & stopped by to squat KC, 1 traded, 1 on IR for 13 total… 8 of 12 2008 picks Herm’s remain.

32 hand-picked ’search’ & ‘check’ types nee “any 22 will do”s came, including draft choices – 24 FAILED to make KC 53 man roster including 1 IR -
5 draft picks made it and 2 did not.

  • September 5, 2009  - Niblick says:

They kept 4QBs and only three OTs and only one Center. Smith can play Center, but then they are short at Guard. More moves are obviously coming.
It doesn’t look too good for Cassel to be available for week one. I assume that’s why they kept 4 QBs. I read earlier in the week they were shopping Pollard. I guess they had no takers.

Here’s a link on a story about Pollard could be what Pioli/Haley saw and the reason why he’s gone : https://kan.scout.com/2/894655.html

Morgan has to be the reason Pollard’s not here. He has had a good preseason and has been progressing greatly in camp. Combine that with the leadership and upside of Brown that has to be the reason Pioli/Haley parted ways with Pollard. A little of a surprise was Lelie we must be working on adding another receiver.

  • September 5, 2009  - Scott says:

Cutting Pollard was a mild surprise. Cutting Lelie…and keeping Copper was a bigger one, I thought. But, I’m not around these guys every day…so I’ll trust the judgment of those that are.

They said all along…it’s the “right” 53, and not necessarily the “best” 53. So far, Pioli has pretty much done exactly what he said he’s going to do.

As far as Rin goes? His arguments range from extremely weak, to non-existent…and he only posts to piss people off. He hasn’t said anything new in…forever. He has become, to use an old sports cliche, a “non-factor”. RIP Rin. Some may miss you. I will not.

LB Dacus & PK Barth are 2 more, so that still makes only 17 of Herm’s Chiefs gone or otherwise off the 53 man; can’t think of any others.

  • September 5, 2009  - #58 says:

I guess that 54% Herm’s Chiefs still remain 4 years later is why we are still loosing.

  • September 5, 2009  - Anonymous says:

those numbers are manipulative at best
to truly figure it, you would have to factor in how many of those players 4 years ago where in fact from the vermeil era, also, the turnover rate for all 4 seasons, and, to be fair, include how many people herm cut each year in training camp. Remember, every team has to get down to 53 EVERY YEAR – and this is the first camp to hold it to 80 during camp. So in reality, if you where to compare stats, herm would lose. But, then again, in reality, Bringing in guys and realizing they won’t cut it and moving on without them, rather than trying to fit a square peg through a round hole, could be seen as better.

But that doesn’t matter to ole J goebbels does it-

  • September 5, 2009  - Scott says:

Feel more than free to keep on posting your nonsense, though. Because every time you do…you make more and more of an ass of yourself. You don’t have one shred of credibility left here. It’s simply amazing that you have figured that out yet. Duh!

  • September 5, 2009  - Rin Tin Tin says:

In fact, it nee they & are even worse than that when big picture be considered.

They have signed or acquired otherwise 43 players since they stumbled into KC – the 31 listed afore as well a Cassel, Vrabel, Belcher, Walters, Mays, Goff, Alleman, Ndukwe, Gutierrez, Ryan, Engram & Copper.

    25 misses out of 43 chances = a 71% FAILURE RATE.

If we even feel pity on them and give them rookie OG Colin Brown who did not make the team, that is still a 64% FAILURE RATE.

Yup, Herm is STILL The Man!

(PS) And with more cuts/claims still to come, who be the most likely ‘current’ Chiefs bid us adieu? If the odds play out as they have to date well… more ‘Patriot Way’ sorrow to come. ‘Q’ Lawrence & Walters the most likely, my opine…an McBride or Copper the Herm men nearest the precipice Turk – maybe e’en a Battle or Savage.

An entire off-season to draft, sign free agents & get better has resulted in this? An 0-4 record, a 71% FAILURE RATE talent acquisition? Why, Stevie Wonder could do as well…me thinks he became the new offensive co-ordinator for the STL game.

Funny how all those earlier KC fan’dumbs’ claims “we’re going to the Superbowl” & “we’ll win the AFC – at least West” have given way to –

“can we sign Pashos?” And “we could’ve gotten something for Pollard” and “preseason doesn’t matter’ and…

“THIS might be the funniest post I’ve ever read on here.”

    - agreed – but if you wait another 16 games, the 0-20 creation theirs will seem even funnier…

I don’t know what you think you’ve proven rin. Are you not aware that carl peterson is the reason this team is in the shape it’s in? Horrible draft after horrible draft, I mean hell rin, even you have to acknowledge that most of herms boys when he went to the playoffs where vermeils boys. You act as if you have some facts or points, but you’ve proven nothing as far as I can tell. A high turnover rate this offseason is a GOOD thing for chiefs fans, especially during a time of transition. It’s how you build a better team. Do you think it’s common place to completely a team as bad as this one was in one offseason? Do you think there is a limitless talent pool out there we are just unable to tap due to incompetence? Your stats are lies, slanted to support your view, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. You act as if herm edwards didn’t turn over THE SAME amount of people ever year, if not more? Slanted fatcs, to support your agenda. Typical NeoCon.

    - ’tis more important what YOU think more so KNOW what Rin has proven…it’s the raison you be here now, desperately tryin keep your & spinning head above water…

“You act as if you have some facts or points, but you’ve proven nothing as far as I can tell.”

    - und so… you vant to silence those people mit something to say that is different than the party line, huh? ‘Groupthink’ is the ONLY way, yes? You should apply to work for the Third Re- er, Chiefs – they will give you a nice muzzle und jack boots to wear…

“Your stats are lies, slanted to support your view”

    - stats do not lie – ever – slant is a matter of interpretation and/or a perception… if you read the blog entry from this site’s creator Sunday as in this morning, you’ll find that he too – least by your ’slant’ nee lies – be ‘lying’ as twere… you keep looking until you find something to like and can agree with, ‘kay? OK!

    X’s & O’s to you from your pals…

    Rin & Herm

UsingRin theory then Herm must have used Vermeil’s players to get into the playoffs therin every W Vermeil and every L Herm. If haley wins more than six games this years with Herm’s players then he has done a whole lot more than Herm. It would be the result of better coaching and getting the proper results than whose players they actually are.

Read Bob G’s EXCELLENT Sunday morning blog that discusses such – he agrees with Rin by the way.
