More Moves & Practice Squad

The Chiefs shuffled the deck, but only slightly on Sunday, as they made one change to the roster.

Claimed on waivers was OT Ryan O’Callaghan (6-7, 330 pounds), a four-year veteran who was released by the Patriots. To make room for him, the Chiefs released second-year offensive tackle Barry Richardson.

The Chiefs also  filled seven of the eight spots on their practice squad by signing: CB Jackie Bates, TE Tom Crabtree, DE Dion Gales, DE Bobby Greenwood, G Darryl Harris, RB Javarris Williams and WR Rodney Wright.

And the influx of s ‘Patriot Way’ garbage continues. Chiefs released OT Barry Richardson in lieu of New England reject OT Ryan O’Callaghan.

Why? Excellent question. Apparently only raison be because he can say – ‘Pioli’ – sans breaking into a silly simper nee giggle.

How much of an uprgrade is O’Callaghan? Get out your tweezers & a magnifying glass folks.

The guy was dumped by the Pats despite being the #5 draft choice of s in 2006. He is what #4 Will Fanklin was to the Chiefs- “TIMBER” – as in a BUST. And this years #6 BUST-O, Colin Brown (Brown’s already on IR for the entire ‘09 season – appears he’s following O’Callaghan’s footsetps, only faster.)

O’Callaghan has been getting worse by the season. He actually started 6 games in 2006, then aft NE saw what they had, they sat him on the bench for all of 2007 save for 1 start. By 2008 he was not even on the team- out of football on IR. And now come 2009, released outright. Naturally, says “I gotts ta have him!”

Both 2006 his heydey & 2007 his fall from grace, NE did ‘not’ make the Superbowl- which they have done with regularity past decade. A coincidence, I’m certain.

So…KC adds a big 6′6 345 lb. Irish lump to the other four hairy-knuckled types already dragging their hairy knuckles front of Kaycee’s sacrficial lambs headed for slaughter- Chiefs QBs any & all. Last year it was Mssrs. – Huard, Croyle, Thigpen, Gray, Martin, Marques Hagans – even Mark Bradley got into the act & ‘Diapers’ Johnson too.

Enter Egoli & Hailme- dual saviors on the half shell – no waiting. And they give us Mike ‘The Big Goof’ Goff at OG, ‘Chicklets & Clippers’ aka Alleman & Ndukwe – who were rejected by Miami and soon to be waiver wire casualties until KC’s (not so) dynamic duo rescued them, and OT Ryan ‘O’Callaghan – he’s magically delicious.

An entire off season and all we get for help is flotsam nee jetsam, frick & frack & jack squat. Comin soon to a eulogy near you: KC Chiefs 2009 season QBs – DOA.

    R.I.P.

With the addition of Ryan & the release of Barry, Bob G will now have to adjust that 63.3% of Herm Chiefs returnees downward; I expect all the way down to about … oh, 61.998574231% probably – give or take.

Totally disagree Rin Ryan was among the tackles mention most reporters say it was a surprise in his release I think we just got an upgrade in that spot.

  • September 6, 2009  - aPauled says:

No doubt that O’Callaghan is an upgrade at RT. The Chiefs went into training camp with complete crapola at this position. The right side will still be weak all season unless Goff finds a fountain of youth and O’Callaghan or Ndukwe really steps up.

Barry Richardson should be signed to the practice squad and one of the DE’s cut loose.

  • September 6, 2009  - Herm's (not) The Man says:

Not sure why Rin has such a hard-on over Colin Brown; the guy was drafted as a project, not a starter. He has the size and athleticism, supposedly has great feet due to his years playing basketball, and from what I’ve read is a hard worker. He may or may not make it in the NFL, but I think he’s worth putting a little time into.

I’m a bit surprised that Richardson was let go; I think that he has potential as well. He’s a brainy one, like Niswanger, and I like those kinds of guys on the O-line.

  • September 6, 2009  - Mark says:

I’m not sure Richardson is PS eligible. Herm had him on the 53 man squad all year.

  • September 6, 2009  - Mark says:

The Current state of Herm’s drafts:
2006: 7 picks, 3 left: Hali, Croyle, Page.
2007 7 Picks, 4 left: Bowe, Turk(for now), Tank, Kolby(for now, PUP, likely release after)
2008 12 Picks, 7 left: Dorsey, Albert, Flowers, Charles, Cottam, Morgan, Carr.
This was suppoed to be our foundation draft, with numerous picks to set up this team for at least the next half decade. This draft will be the biggest indictment on Herm, besides his “coaching”. After only 1 year, FIVE picks are gone. I once foolishly bought into the nonsense that he was a good drafter, but the facts paint a FAR different picture. In 3 drafts, there are only 3 picks still here after round 3, Carr, Page, and Kolby(for now). 2 are DB’s, which is the only area Herm was almost adequate in drafting and coaching. Those mid and late round guys are the lifebloood of a good drafter, and they show how bad Herm was at this, actually rivaling his “coaching”, if that’s possible. It shows how laughable his “85% complete” comment was, prior to this draft. Pioli has a daunting task ahead of him, and while he’s NOT a great drafter, he has to be better than this pathetic clown, if we have any hope of getting and staying good.

Im sure all of our QBs are pleased tonight!

  • September 6, 2009  - Rin Tin Tin says:

When asked in a year end press conference Herm said off the top of his head that “80% – 85%” of the team was in place. That was before a new regime came in – and, even despite that fact when total housecleaning is the norm, both & both affirmed and determined that Herm was correct: they retained more than 60% – almost 63% per Bob G (difference between 63, 80 & 85 being 33, 42 & 45 – 12 players tops 9 at minimum – hardly earth-shattering. And how many Herm starters from 2008 return?

Based on how they are expected to line up Sunday (we shall see of course): Croyle, Bowe, Albert, Waters, Niswanger, Johnson & Cox = 7 or 64% being 2008 Herm starters (yes, Bowe lists 2nd team..right. ‘check’).

On defense: Dorsey, Carr, Flowers, Page, Johnson or Williams and Edwards or Tyler = 6 or 55% being Herm starters ‘08 (yes, Johnson 2nd too…right. ‘check’).

And remains true that 71% of ’search’ & ‘check’s signees have BUSTED just this year – training camp/preseason/final cuts- THAT is quite an indictment nee tribute to their ineptness to date. Said will but continue without question ongoing…Rin has no doubt.

“THAT is quite an indictment nee tribute to their ineptness to date.”

Stats on – stats off. The analysis is indeed “on” to see if “O” is an upgrade. However, they thought enough of B-Rinch to cut him, just as they did Sackintosh.

  • September 6, 2009  - Rin Tin Tin says:

And Brown who – even before he went on IR – BOMBED nee BUSTED at RT (so bad he had to be moved inside to OG’dom – 4th team.)

    Oh the humanity…

  • September 6, 2009  - #58 says:

“I can take any 22 players from off the street and-”

    Chiefsfandumb: “OH SHUT-UP!!!”

“OK, I get the message. Right. ‘check’ I’m a buffoon.”

Back to the other new face of the Chiefs

He also signed Gutierrez too … now O’Callaghan (even ex-Pat Way QB K. O’Connell might have been here, save for DET wisely signing him first then flipping him for a draft pick back to the Jets.) Appears that even the lowly Lions have passed KC now as an organization knows what it’s doing.

Gee, I wonder which team will win more games in 2009, the Lions or Rin’s Chiefs?

    Take a guess…

  • September 7, 2009  - Michael says:

O’Callaghan was the first guy on my mind who I wanted the Chiefs to get. He, along with Ndukwe and Alleman are instant upgrades for the line. Wouldn’t at all mind seeing them all start: Alleman at center, Ndukwe at RG and O’Callaghan at RT. We’ll see how long Niswanger and Goff can hold them off.

There’s still other OL out there: Wesley Britt G-T-Patriots, Tony Pashos-T-Jaguars are two I like. Also think Justin Miller might be worth a look as a returner.

Keep up the good work Pioli, Haley.

What limited yet absolutely horrendous moves by Pioli. This guy is clueless.

  • September 7, 2009  - Rin Tin Tin says:

Yay! I was wrong but now am right and ’search’ & ‘check’ are the worse for it!

Rin was too generous to & – to wit forgot to include Hali as a defensive starter.

So, the Chiefs defense AS WELL AS their offense be equally 7 men each – or 64% Herm’s Chiefs on both units. Counting 2 specialists Colquitt and Gafford 16 Chiefs starters out of a possible 25 remain Herm’s Chiefs!

Based on how they are expected to line up Sunday (we shall see of course): Croyle, Bowe, Albert, Waters, Niswanger, Johnson & Cox = 7 or 64% being 2008 Herm starters (yes, Bowe lists 2nd team… right. ‘check’).

On defense: Dorsey, Carr, Flowers, Page, Johnson or Williams, Hali and Edwards or Tyler = 7 or 64% being Herm starters ‘08 (yes, Johnson 2nd too… right. ‘check’).

Specialists: Punter Colquitt & LS Gafford = 2 out of 3 or 67% being Herm’s starters from ‘08.

And remains true that 71% of ’search’ & ‘check’s signees have BUSTED just this year – training camp/preseason/final cuts- THAT is quite an indictment & tribute to their being inept to date. Said will but continue – without question ongoing – Rin has no doubt.

  • September 7, 2009  - Behind Enemy Lines says:

Why not, 1978? It’s certainly better than being what we’ve been over the last few years. Or, are you excited about the W-L record over the last few years?

  • September 7, 2009  - ILChiefsFan says:

If Ndukwe was playing guard I’d consider it an upgrade. At tackle? We’ll see.

  • September 7, 2009  - Rin Tin Tin says:

    Really?

How many old/ex Jets did Herm Edwards bring in? Think hard (will leave the lights on for you.)

Didn’t even trade for his old flame QB Pennington (he could’ve.) Will Gutierrez & Ca$$el prove that knows more – or less? (more or less, of course.)

OG Adrian Jones? That acquisition a former Jet certainly worked out well (O’Callaghan is this year’s Adrian.)

    Any others/ Don’t recall them if so…

  • September 7, 2009  - Rin Tin Tin says:

Course, Herm came from NY too… but then he got ‘Trumped’ by Jr. (the balance $heet doesn’t fall far from the MBA, growth fund give way high-risk albeit not so high-yield the 0-4 aft to date.)

  • September 7, 2009  - ILChiefsFan says:

    Wow, Rin. Why so sensitive?

Herm brought in the guys you mentioned and others like James Reed, Ty Law, and Jon McGraw. There may be some others I’m not remembering. A reasonable person would say that this didn’t make the Chiefs into NYJ West, but I’m using the criteria I was given (former Pats exec + 3 former Pats = NE west).

My point, if you care to understand it, was that new coaches and GM’s bring in guys from their old teams all the time; why criticize the practice until you’ve seen them play? And if you’re going to bring in talent from another team the Pats are a better choice than most.

  • September 7, 2009  - Rin Tin Tin says:

    Wow, ILL. Why so oblivious?

Rin saw them play – they’re 0-4 so far – need we see more? You enjoy the weekly train wreck if you like.

Of note, all those Herm Jets brought in actually made the team – already now we have seen several failed ‘Patriot Way’ players: name of Robertson, Jones and Redd fallen the wayside – O’Callaghan this years Jones, my prediction.

Gutierrez? Gesundheit. So then, what difference between and Carl P? Not a thing as the evidence to date affirms – ‘cept for success %.

And THAT is the point – your “better NE west than NYJ west” upchuck proven faux as I’ve enumerated.
As well highlighting your obvious anti-Herm bias – sans any justification where talent’s a concern.

Yes, in fact, we do. These players haven’t played one regular season game yet, in case you haven’t noticed. One hasn’t played a game of any kind in a Chief’s uniform.

So far two of those players, Cassel and Vrabel, have played pretty well (I know you disagree, but you’re biased); they still need to prove themselves now that the games count. Gutierrez, a #3 quarterback, has played about like a #3 quarterback.

Your accusation of anti-Herm bias on my part is laughable. I expended quite a bit of effort last season defending Herm from some of the ridiculous things said by the haters. This season will apparently be spent challenging the ridiculous statements of Pioli/Haley haters like yourself.
