Chiefs Trim Five

From the Truman Sports Complex

The Chiefs moved five players off their roster to reach the NFL limit of 75.

WR Devard Darling went to the injured-reserve list, done for the season with a serious knee injury. RB Kolby Smith went to the Physically-Unable-To-Perform List as he continues to rehab from his knee  injury/surgery from last November. Smith has a chance to be able to play this year, although he won’t be able to begin practicing until the seventh week of the NFL season.

Released were veteran DE Alfonso Boone, WR Amani Toomer and rookie OT Cameron Goldberg.

Very disappointed Zach and Goff aren’t on that list, and I would rather have kept Toomer than Engram, but hopefully Engram goes soon.

  • September 1, 2009  - Scott says:

Yeah…was a little surprised to see Toomer go first among the WR’s.

Didn’t hurt a thing to bring him in here to see what he had, though. Too bad he didn’t make it. Because let’s face it…if he can’t make it in THIS group, he’s done.

The big cut down to 53 is just around the corner. These are the most glaring, so-called, ‘easy’ ones to chop.

I’ll boldly predict that the Chiefs will be looking for an experienced and well rounded RB when the other teams make their cuts. My early hope is the Bengals will release Brian Leonard for that role.

  • September 1, 2009  - Blake says:

    Mark

Why are you upset we didnt cut Thomas? He is a great leader and was suppposedly still in great shape, he just had an injury that is no reason to cut him if he can still play.

Goff I can understand but I am not sure we have anyone who could come in and do a better job right now with who we have on the roster.

Did you see how long it took Toomer to get back past the line of scrimmage the other night? He was the last person back and we were in our two minute drill. He has lost a LOT of speed.

I don’t know, Rip ‘em. I was kinda’ hoping for awhile that they would try to sign Edge…but they never did. Even though him and Haley were buddies.

  • September 1, 2009  - Rip 'em a new one says:

    Scott,

There are probably several RBs better, in terms of pedigree and experience that will hit the open market better than what the Chiefs have after LJ and Charles. Edge would have been okay with me but maybe a little on the pricey or long-of-tooth side for Haley?

I think the best solid guy that can do the blocking, multi-tasking (Receiving-ST-grinding the tough yards out), along with obvious ability and toughness is where the Chiefs will be looking.

I could be wrong, have been in the past, but this one area is too glaring not to be addressed by Pioli/Haley in my opinion.

As a matter of fact, there are way TOO many glaring areas in need of upgrading, are there not?

  • September 1, 2009  - JohnNdallas says:

Does any one still post here that was here last season?
If so I posted a link here last season that was a map of the US and it showed which games were carried by what network and in what area of the country they would be broadcast in.

Well some how it’s disappeared off my book marks. I was hoping maybe some one here still had it and would post it here again.

    Thanks

Nah. Unless you count pretty much every position on the offense, that is. And a few on defense. Other than that…we’re good to go. Ha!

I bet Pioli is on the phone right now…

I was looking for that link recently as well. Would be great if someone still has it.

DE Alfonso Boone was the real surprise on the Cut List. Boone was #1 on the depth chart keeping the spot warm for Tyson Jackson…and then he’s gone. Bobby Greenwood must have shown some promise although I can’t think of when.

Toomer…Goldberg – 2 more hand-picked’s added to the list & utter FAILURES the “any 22 will do” – WHOOPS not nyet, nee won’t boo hoo.

Out Robertson, out Jones, out Curtis, out Purdham – bye Redd – gone Toomer, see ya later Goldy too!

Ca$$el be down on his $63 mil back$ide – li$ting to bench, fans ready commit suicide. The coffer$ be overflowin’ in Jr$ world view, yet the roster be poor as in pi$$ KC ’tis true!

Goff & Thomas & Brown & Engram – blind man coulda told em “can’t play – we don’t need em!”

Ryan now Succop’ing, ‘Q’ hath no hands, Brown was a tackle now 4th guard bench end, Magee’s no Max, Alex be 3rd d-end, Jake O with an owwweeee be yet injured again, & JW doth scare us not with pen as when game in, Ty his million$ everyone his friend!

When all is said & done will be just as Rin said, this be Herm Edwards team that wins any games in 2009, if they can overcome vainglorious villainy ’search’ & ‘check’, all they touch turn to dreck.

So much for ‘The Patriot Way’ such ability find talent any, so too ‘My Way Or Highway’ freeways full 22 skidoo!

Scouting for the Chiefs. What do you think so far?

First easy cut, did not get one correct. Looking at depth chart (if truthfull). a lot of previous starters are backups. DJ is third string? The truth will be interesting.

DET Lions claim former ‘Patriot Way’ QB O’Connell on waivers from NE, pick s pocket.

    Aww… too bad ’search’

    heh heh heh!

    GREAT WORK!!

    Seriously?

  • September 1, 2009  - Kenny says:

It didn’t help Toomer’s case in making the team when he was jogging back to the line of scrimmage late in 4th quarter. Usually only see that with lineman.

Must be pretty out of shape. Too bad, I would have liked to see him make the cut.

  • September 1, 2009  - JohnNdallas says:

Uh huh. When I’m not busy coaching the Chiefs QBs.

  • September 1, 2009  - JohnNdallas says:

    Hey gorillafan!

Ah, I’ve been around. I see Bob’s sight is still Romper Room central, judging from that fake post above.

Thanks again IL for the link, I was sure hoping someone would still have it.

Hang tight Chiefs fans, Haley’s gonna finish with the enema this team has needed for along time, then we’ll see some real progress.

  • September 1, 2009  - Jim Lloyd+ says:

Will it be easer to get in the end zone with Balt. from the 25 to 40 yd. line than the 3 yd. line ?
That extra ROOM is harder to cover ?
That’s what Arz . was doing with those recievers , but can they do it here .

  • September 1, 2009  - alex k says:

gosh, its so awful and such a failure when you spend practically nothing of money you must spend on players who dont even play a regular season game

rin, you are WAY too obvious…you arent making anyone angry…its really obvious that you take anything and make it negative like whitlock but you arent getting paid to do it….very troll like since unlike whitlock you never have anything positive to say.

  • September 1, 2009  - alex k says:

i was here a year ago, and yay fake posting is back evidently. sigh….

  • September 1, 2009  - Herman Edwards says:

  • September 1, 2009  - Jim Lloyd+ says:

Larry the cable guy made a movie inspired by Whitloess . GOOD MOVIE—-but they left out golf and hockey—–.
Guess they did not want to cover things they didn’t know about .

    JohnNdallas,

Hope one of the posts is actuallly you. We’ve missed you in these parts and your imitators haven’t been up to the task. Win, lose or draw, the Chiefs will be a markedly different team this year and players that aren’t contributing or that are just taking a roster spot won’t be allowed to collect a paycheck in a Soprano no show job. Whether you like them or not they are certainly making efforts to improve the talent. Oh, and guys please remember to walk around the poodle s**t when you can resist the temptation to step in it.

  • September 1, 2009  - JohnNdallas says:

I’m walking around your deposit right now John as you speak. This season is over before it starts.

  • September 2, 2009  - Rin Tin Tin says:

Aww… alex k are you having a bad preseason? Yes, verily appears you are. Cheer up buttercup – your ‘Q’ infatuation may now be requited – by default.

Yes – it will have taken a season ending injury to DD to allow ‘No Hands Lawrence’ to nab roster spot #53 on the club, buy hey, like said “any 22 will do.”

Rin, congratulations…you are the smartest person in your own mind. I bet you have lots of friends and are a joy to be around.
