Victory Gets Blacked Out At Arrowhead

From Arrowhead Stadium

Only the folks inside the Chiefs know how much money it cost the Hunt family to lift the local television blackout for Sunday’s game against Buffalo. The club said they needed to sell 3,500 tickets, but there were thousands more available for the game and it cost the club thousands of dollars to take care of the visitor’s share of the gate split.

Clark Hunt should ask for his money back. There are many better things that money could have been spent on as the Chiefs dropped their 10th game of the season, this time 16-10 to the Buffalo Bills.

If the Hunts want to entertain Kansas City TV viewers, they should have blacked out the game, but televised the half-time ceremonies that involved performers from a local dance studio including one tiny little guy who had moves galore and drew the greatest cheers of the afternoon.

The team announced paid attendance of 68,668, but empty seats were plentiful. Yet, this crowd did make a lot of noise. Some of it was encouragement and some was raspberries directed at their favorite team that is now 3-10 on the season.

“I just want to thank the fans,” said head coach Todd Haley. “I thought the fans were tremendous for us. I thought they were loud and a disruption for the Bills for most of the game.”

By losing once again, it guaranteed the Chiefs a third consecutive season with double-digit defeats. That’s never happened before in the 50-season history of the franchise. From 2007-09, the Chiefs are 9-36.

There are plenty of things to talk about and discuss after a game such as this one. Here’s our stuff:

  • GAME STORY: Too many mistakes to win for the Chiefs.
  • COLUMN: A Haley decision that didn’t work.
  • OFFENSE: Charles is going up, Cassel is going down.
  • DEFENSE: Good enough to win.
  • NOTES: Bills get lucky.

It was all pretty sad. Just worn out from bitching. Maybe next week they will play football. If not a top 5 pick and that is bad, both from money for nothing and what if you blow the pick. We need help and there is none.

I had really thought we’d see some progress by now. This has been a wasted season.

Any one else see the throat slash by Charles in the end zone? My guess is there will be a fine.

Where is all the Ca$$el supporters? I told u all that he was far overrated….now every1 is blaming Chambers for us losing, well what about the 2 easy touchdown passes Ca$$el missed 2 Bradley? 4 int….against the bills. Can somebody tell me why was Ca$$el even throwing the ball that much and not tryng 2 just manage the game against a team who is last in the NFL against the run? I will answer that for u we have a terrible HC who doesnt have a clue about gameplanning. Haley is 2 caught up in having the fans embrace Ca$$el as our franchise player when he is clearly not…..#25 is making a strong case week in and out with a terrible line and his fumbling problems!

The two “easy” passes to Bradley were so badly misplayed by Bradley that only a fool like you couldn’t see it. Blinded by hate and self absorbtion would be my guess.
Don’t hurt your arm trying to pat yourself on the back with your self-congratulations and I told yous.
I take solace in the fact that at least the Chiefs don’t have an a$$hole like you running the team.
Alex the great, ha. Great at what? Pulling your pud?…loser!

    RickyP,

    AMEN

I do agree that Cassle missed those throws, especially the second one. Bradley was wide open. If you can’t make that throw, weeeelll…

Hardly all his fault though. For God’s sake, make a tackle, and how about just letting a guy run full speed through every blocker on the kickoff return team to blow up your guy? No, it was a team effort.

  • December 14, 2009  - Alexthe"GREAT" says:

Ricky P I played and coached this game for years and have alot more football experience in my pinky toe than maybe u have in your big brain…..lol….u are right it was Bradley’s fault, Ca$$el is the next coming of Elvis……(Grbac). Oh yeah, I dont hate any1 im just a realist while u and gorillafan sit and tend 2 place blame on Herm,Clancy,WR,o-line…ect. Ca$$el is a average 2 subpar QB…and that is real as it gets. When he plays par u all praise him when he sucks its some1 elses fault…Lmao…Glad u dont run this organization, then we would have a team full of Ca$$els.

Alex, this is an adult conversation about football. You write like a teenage girl sending a text message. No wonder nobody takes what you say seriously.

Who cares what I say Anon, I’m just a fan that voices his opinion and shouldnt be crucified for it but….whatever I’ll take that….u all just need 2 accept the fact that Ca$$el isnt the second coming, but only a high priced circus. I take that back atleast a circus is somewhat entertaining.

still on the bandwagon, though I am emotionally checked out for the remainder of the year.

Year 1 is figuring out what you got and what you need, and setting up for the foundation.

Matt is struggling no doubt, but so was Trent Green in his first year with not much help. I like is competitiveness, I have never seen a quarterback take the beating that he does, and still pick him self up and come back for more.

I like that he said shut the F#@K Up to the crowd, It shows that he cares. I would be pissed to. He is taking it on the chin for this team.

Next year will be a better year, they will be able to address the areas of the most concern. But do not expect to be really competitive until 2011, it is a process and if you don’t believe that your in for a long 2 years.

If you want to be pissed off at somebody blame Dick, and Carl. They are the ones who hedged everything on veteran players, and did a bad job drafting and developing players.

Todd has a plan, but you can’t address everthing at once.

    Go chiefs!!!

Just curious, Hawaiianchief, did you know Marty came to KC and went 8-8 without using Year 1 to evaluate what he had, some coaches have it and some do not. Your next year comment, why and what makes you say so? I figure at least 3 years with these two, if at all. Pioli/Haley have added 29 new players and not one is an improvement. At some point, guys like you will have to stop blaming carl/herm for the vomit Pioli/Haley is putting on the field. Reminder, after 13 games not one player is showing improvement and most of the guys who are in positions of importance are off the street. Talk about not using last off season to add one stinking player.

  • December 14, 2009  - Hawaiianchief says:

You have your opinon I have mine. I don’t know the circumstances of Marty year 1. But I do know that we had a solid draft in Herms last year with 10 plus picks, and then we dramatically changed our defensive strategy. If you don’t think that matters or not I leave that to you.

Fact is we have no players on our team right now from the beginning of this decade save for DJ, our punter.

I also believe in chemistry, you don’t scrap your entire off season the week before the season with a brand new playbook and expect great results. Add in all the new receivers and it is what it is.

Changing offensive and defensive schemes in the same year with limited options, and Front office changes. Come on use your head, you want instant gratification go outside a play. Keep living in Marty world, last I checked he didn’t win the big one.

I never said next year, I said it will be better next year, but not competitive until at 2011

  • December 14, 2009  - gorillafan says:

    Hawaiianchief,

I agree with ya, and not with Alex the Great. ha

anyway, I think your view of it is true, you cannot judge a GM and a Hc in one freaking year. And the “guys” bitching about pioli and haley…..WHY? He have been in most of our games, should have won more, AND we have still have won more games than LAST YEAR after herm and carl had their time….3 yrs..

so alex, no im not going to dog a qb that is getting punished everygame and getting up, showing toughness and responsibility, he is a team leader, and he hasnt been great, but he hasnt been THAT bad…

It just blows my mind how people react and call for thier heads so quickly….and like I said before, if it was year 2 or 3, than I would have a different opinion, but it hasnt been a season yet with the entire organization being stripped down COMPLETELY….to me its stupid to say pioli/haley/ca$$el suck right no.

  • December 14, 2009  - el cid says:

While I can see everything you two are saying. What I do not see is the “WHY” behind it. In the time since the change from carl to Pioli, what has improved? I do not want anyone fired yet but I think it the height of arrogance to sit back and say they did nothing this year but just wait til next and they are going to change everything they did not do so far and then look out. It is just possible Pioli/Haley are in over their heads. And to sit back for 2-3 years and quietly wait is the real stupidity.

  • December 14, 2009  - Hawaiianchief says:

gorillafan….word…ha ha ha. Blows my mind, but everybody is entitled to there opinion.

It is super tough for me not to be critical, but I try to stay positive and look at the facts. Our record sucks, but our coach who we all know speaks his mind, says he is seeing improvement in the day to day operation of his team.

So far he has been nothing but candid, and until I see otherwise I will give him time to develop his vision for this team.

That being said what we are watching this year will definitely not be tolerated by me next yr.

I think another off season will do great wonders for this franchise. This staff was basically the last staff assembled, that includes the front office and scouting departments.

They could really benefit from having a full off season to continue to figure out what is necessary and their scouts should have a better idea of what the staff is looking for in its players. (lets face it, this draft was pretty much a make shift one).

Bottom line I have been critical of some of the plays and decisions of Haley. But I like the toughness he brings, I like that he emphasizes conditioning something that has reflected in our injury report unlike any other season I can remember. He comes from a winning pedigree in Parcells, and his father, and he is not afraid of making the unpopular decisions. He plays to win, not that conservative #$!^ that herm believes in.

  • December 14, 2009  - Hawaiianchief says:

el cid, I just don’t see what you mean by sit back and not do anything.

Pioli/Haley have been anything but that. LJ even said he was impressed about how proactive this front office is about trying to find players that fit.

They traded for Matt, and Vrabel. Not bad for a 2nd round pick. 2 starters!

They found a potential compliment to D Bowe, Mid-season. Possible slot receiver in long, another mid season pick up?

They have tried to address the oline deficiency by trading for 2 linemen?

    They have been very proactive???

I am just saying it takes time for pieces to fit, and players to get comfortable with whats being asked of them.

Plus Matt’s wide receiving core has been a rotating door. Rich Gannon has been on record has saying its hard to build that chemistry when your picking up your offensive pieces on Wednesday and playing on sunday.

A year from now if this is still going on, then I would be really concerned, but not right now
