Pre-Game Report 9/20 Updated

From Arrowhead Stadium

11:30 a.m. – The Hunt family was out in force on Sunday as all four of Lamar’s children are in the house for this game.

Also on the field pre-game were the fathers of both Scott Pioli and Todd Haley, who are visiting this home opener weekend.

10:35 a.m. – It’s  official, Matt Cassel will start at quarterback today for the Chiefs.

And Brandon Flowers will start at left cornerback.

Here are the Chiefs inactives, with a few surprises: QB Matt Gutierrez, WR Terrance Copper, CB Ricardo Colclough, RB Jamaal Charles, G Andy Alleman, TE Brad Cottam and LB Pierre Walters. The inactive third quarterback is Tyler Thigpen.

Charles and Cottam are surprises, since they appear to be healthy scratches who were on the field last week against Baltimore. Expect RB Dantrell Savage to return kickoffs and don’t be surprised if Bobby Wade returns punts in his first game with the team.

Raiders inactives included WR-Returner Johnnie Lee Higgins and RB Justin Fargas. Also inactive are: OT Khalif  Barnes, G Paul McQuistan, WR Chaz  Schilens, TE Brandon Myers and WR Nick Miller. The third inactive quarterback is Charlie Frye.

10:15 a.m. – No official word on the status of QB Matt Cassel but early signs say he’s going to play. Cassel has been on the field since 10 a.m. throwing to the receivers with the other quarterbacks. The difference is he’s wearing his football pants and a brace on that left knee. He’s dressed as if he’s ready for action and he’s also taking the first throw as the receivers run through their routes.  Last week in Baltimore, he was not wearing his football pants and was second in the throwing rotation behind Brodie Croyle who started.

Another sign a decision has been made is that head coach Todd Haley did not get on the field until 10:15. If there was a decision to be made, he would have been out there with the start of the throwing session.

Shocked Charles is deactivated. I figured Cassell would play but am totally shocked Charles has been deactivated. Hopefully the speed and power of LJ and Battle will be enough to overwhelm the Raiders rush defense.

Money Pit mutt ca$$el in, any chance at all chiefs had to win now down and out… 2-3 INTs and 0-6 on the season draws nigh.

  • September 20, 2009  - David says:

Surprised but not shocked about Charles. He looked very tentative last week and seems to have lost his confidence. The fact he could not nail down the kick return spot in the off season was a terrible sign for him.

  • September 20, 2009  - Mark says:

Charles and Cottam. 2 more high round Herm draft choices not long for the Chiefs? Herm’s drafting seems to have been as bad as his coaching, hard as that is too fathom.

Rin u are starting 2 look like a genius….Haley completely blew this game with bad personnel moves(the inactives),wasted timeouts and questionable play calling! U can sit and dispute me all u want but at the end of the day we lost 2 the RADIERS at home. Even though we lost I liked the fire that Haley displayed with the players on the sideline but dont know if he’s more advanced of an HC than Herm! Only reason we were in the game was b/c of our d-fense and LJ, Cassell showed me absolutely nothing but how silly he looked trying 2 display pocket presence when no1 was there. Atleast Brodie stood in there against a much better defense and fire the ball when his number was called. Cant wait 2 see how Cassell responds 2 Phi. on the road, time 2 show and prove Mr. Franchise!

  • September 20, 2009  - Rin Tin Tin says:

Yes! Bad coaching, ca$$el looked gimpy despite some success; too J. Russell & the RADUHS did EVERYTHING in their power to give this game away to the Chiefs – and STILL KC could not get it for a win.

    PATHETIC!

& are frauds & the biggest poseurs Rin has ever seen!

What’s compared to Herm? No better- WORSE. He is 0-6 & the bleeding in KC red has only just begun…

ca$$el threw 2 INTS just as Rin predicted & darn near a 3rd…he is a huge BUST. Money Pit mutt is to franchise QBs what the KC Royals are to ‘real’ MLB teams… which is to say both are NAUGHT.

The KC Chiefs are well on the way to equaling or beating the preseason considered the worst team and season in NFL History…

  • September 20, 2009  - Rin Tin Tin says:

Brodie Croyle would have WON this game today for the Chiefs

    daddy-o

    Rin 6-0!

  • September 20, 2009  - Rin Tin Tin says:

    mutt ca$$el 11-5 with NE & Belichick in 2008

    mutt ca$$el 0-6 with KC & in 2009

    11 – 11 = he’s a .500 QB – AVERAGE – not franchise

    heh heh heh!

  • September 20, 2009  - Rin Tin Tin says:

All these close losses in 2009; in 2008 it was Herm’s fault but in ‘09 it’s not s

  • September 20, 2009  - Alexthe"GREAT" says:

U know the most disturbing part is that C.Mays and D.Williams had 1 tackle a piece and these guys START! Fire these clowns asap, its time 2 reward DJ by giving him his starting job back so he can start forcing turnovers again. Then maybe we wont have 2 rely on our pitful offense 2 put up points. Go Chiefs in……..awwww hell lets just win a game!

  • September 21, 2009  - larry says:

yes I have wings, am 12 inches tall, and have magic dust

  • September 21, 2009  - larry says:

My small keyboard however is not as wee as is my stunted member.

My fairyness both length and girth falls short that way too as the wings I wear are Stayfree Maxi.

Rin you’re like a guy standing in the midst of the carnage of a train wreck eating pop corn and cracking jokes. Have you no humanity sir?

  • September 21, 2009  - Rin Tin Tin says:

To borrow & paraphrase an apropos line a motion picture: “the Chiefs are drowning here & Rin is describing the color of the water.”

Sure, Rin has a sense of humanity… in the same portion these Herm Edwards bashers done gave out nee Herm received from WHINING Chiefsfandumb ‘08, turnabout being fair play – if that which comes around not so pleasant as when went ’round…

  • September 21, 2009  - el cid says:

Sorry but herm was a diaster as head coach in KC and the only reason he was not roasted the year before was his race. Most people do not want to be associated with racist and will go out of their way to show they are not one (at least on the surface), sad but true. Had herm been white he would have been gone sooner. So keep writing and I will try to not read as much as possible. I remember days before computers where big mouths who thought they were wiseguys like you got punched in their mouths for their efforts, so hid at home. Herm was lousy and helped ruin the foundations of this team and thats a fact, jack.

  • September 21, 2009  - Rin Tin Tin says:

el cid tried squat nee shat

    “Sorry”

    - yes, and verily impacted…

“the only reason he was not roasted the year before was his race.”

    - ‘not’ roasted? Then char-broiled or deep fried perhaps then – yup, they sure took it easy on ol’ Herm in 2008…

“Had herm been white he would have been gone sooner.”

    - if such (il)logic was the case then will be gone by the end of this season (if not sooner.)

“So keep writing and I will try to not read as much as possible.”

    - try harder – you’re McGuffey as it stands…

    “I remember days before computers”

    - yet forget as Don Birnam for nights on end ‘Lost Weekend’ every s a Chiefsfandumb…

    “where”

    - not where Don – ‘who’ – said being you, ‘where’ it be that you waste away nee wile away the lush life yours being of secondary import.

Now then: how would you describe your fellow Chiefsfandumb?

“big mouths who thought they were wiseguys”

    - agreed, and unlike Rin-

    “like you”

    - thank you, I can understand that… but back to Chiefsfandumb ‘unlike’ Rin, what did & do you and your ilk feel like aft the RADUHS game yesterday?
    Like they all-

“got punched in their mouths for their efforts, so hid at home.”

    - yes; hobbled off unto hovels theirs – should just stay at home rest the season as such…

“Herm was lousy and helped ruin the foundations of this team and thats a fact, jack.”

    - ‘lousy’ made the playoffs 4 years out of 8 as an NFL Head Coach – and remains the ‘only’ to do so this franchise’s history… meanwhile, is winless- for his entire career- far ‘lousier’.

    heh heh heh!
