Arrowhead History: Most Receiving Yards
The New Arrowhead Stadium will debut at the end of August when the Chiefs host Philadelphia in a pre-season game. After 38 seasons of Chiefs home games, the building has been updated with 21st Century amenities.
Remaining within the stadium shell are memories of the hundreds of games that have been played there since the summer of 1972. Within those games have been some memorable performances by members of the Chiefs and the visiting teams that will be featured over the next weeks leading up to the opening of the new Arrowhead.
Today, it’s the best single-game receiving performances in Arrowhead Stadium history.

i was there for that dallas game with austin. ouch!! almost pulled it off though UGH!!!!!
how about stephon paige w/ 309! i wasn’t following the chiefs in the 80′s, did they have a quaterback that could throw that much??? does anyone know the single game record for receiving yards in the nfl? 309 sounds really high.
gorillafan, i wasn’t @ that game, but i about threw the cat thru the big screen when they blew it! can we please tackle!!!!
Stephon set the record at that time with the 309 yards. Bill Kinney was the QB when he set the record. They had to throw to him several times late in the game to set the record. The Chiefs were winning big so they normally wouldn’t be throwing the ball. Flipper Anderson broke the record a few years later. I’m not sure of the yards and if he still holds the record.
@Niblick:
You got that right, Flipper Anderson notched 336 yards (on 15 catches) against the Saints in 1989; and yes, he still holds the record.
Niblick/Enrique,
thanks for the info
Hard to Imagine Tony G. is’nt on this list. Granted he was’nt known for big yardage as he was for clutch catching. I just figured with all the games he played at Arrowhead that surely he would have had a game equal or better than Shannon Sharpe.
Go Chiefs.
Jimbo,
agreed, he is probably one of those “just missed it” guys that enrique is going to tell you about here in a sec. i was suprised that were only 3 afc west rivals on the list! and no raiders….
Yeah, Dan…it’s hard to believe that Tim Brown didn’t light us up at least once here at Arrowhead, huh?
yeah, Tim Brown is who i was thinking of!he was one of the most feared rivals i thought. what about steve largeant of the seachickens when they used to be in the afc west, didn’t he play in the timeframe of ’79 and later?
Miles Austin…What a breakout game. Maybe we shoulda covered him…….Eddie K! And he’s all the way down 14th on the list. You gotta look clear down at 12 to see a Chief in this decade!
No 9, QB Bill Kenney was with the Chiefs from ’79-’88. He was the starter from ’81-’87, a college free agent out of Northern Colorado, and I think he tried with another team or two before landing in KC.
He is definitely in the top handful of all-time Chiefs QB’s in my opinion. Along with WR’s Stephone Paige and Carlos Carson, the Chiefs had one of the best passing games in the league for awhile under coach John Mackovic. Mack was fired right as he was getting the team to be really successful; another weird and painful episode in KC Chiefs history.
Kenney could get it done. I was at that game and Stephone caught the ‘then’ record breaker in the left corner of the end zone at the Tony DePardo (sp) end of the field.
Later helped Kenney with his Senatorial campaign (unsuccesfully).
Good times and good fun!!!!!
@jimmydee:
Really? You totally should write about that experience. And if you do a good job, probably Bob would put it here. As far as I know, there were few bright spots in the 80′s, so it would be swell to learn more about of of them.
