Chiefs Go Defense In Fifth Round
From the Truman Sports Complex
With a pair of picks in the fifth-round of the 2010 NFL Draft, the Chiefs grabbed two more defensive players:
S Kendrick Lewis of Mississippi.
OLB Cameron Sheffield from Troy.
Lewis, 6-0, 198 pounds, was a two-year starter at Ole Miss, positing 226 total tackles, six interceptions and a remarkable 24 forced fumbles. He came out of New Orleans and was recruited as a wide receiver. In fact, he and the Chiefs second-round selection Dexter McCluster were roommates at Mississippi when both were receivers as freshmen.
Sheffield, 6-2, 257 pounds, played defensive end at Troy and was a three-year starter. He finished his career with 161 total tackles, with 15 sacks, including seven last year. He was recruited out of Portal, Georgia.
The Chiefs no longer have any selections in what’s left of the Draft, but that does not mean they won’t try to trade back in during the sixth and seventh rounds.
The draft doesnt seem all that great, kinda disappointed in some of our picks, but you never know how its going to turn out in the future….
Agree gorilla, this draft definitely didn’t excite the majority of the fan base. We did get playmakers though that will excite people on Sunday afternoons. Charles and McCluster can take it to the house on any play. Arenas can take punts and kicks back. Berry can make plays on Defense and Lewis can apparently create the turnover. Who knows with Moeaki and Asamoah looks like a solid 10 year guy on the OL.
Loved every minute of the draft…they got it done…we have playmakers…we have adapted to the pass majority league…
A grade
Seems like they did little to address a suspect offensive line and receiver corps – maybe the current players will step it up a notch – we’ll see.
I agree alex! I’m so wet over this draft. I can’t wait for this season to start. Offense is improved, just with the mere fact that this team has had a season together is going to carry over this season. We will be putting up points this season and that has been a big problem over the past few years, thanks to, uh hum, the virus herme.
Speaking of which, I need to get tested again.
I thought there would be a LB and NT drafted this year, another safety and CB, well at least we should have a pretty good nickleback if it pans out right..
Interesting alex k, I believe team speed was upgraded big time. Berry is a potential long term answer. The rest, with good careers, will be gone in 5 years, speed kills but burns itself out fairly quickly. A good safe draft, C-, because the 2nd rounders, while I like all of them, could have been players with 10 year impact.
Umm, What in the Wide World of Sports happened to Cam Thomas from UNC?
