More Draft Coverage Coming

I’m not ashamed to admit it, but after weeks of long hours prepping, and then three days of non-stop activity around the 2010 NFL Draft, I’m pooped.

Actually the Dell has taken to smoking and refusing some key strokes. I think it’s trying to tell me something.

So we are going to take a break for a few hours. But there’s more draft coverage to come in the next day or two. You can expect to see:

  • A player profile on OLB Cameron Sheffield.
  • An overview of the entire 255-player draft.
  • Why the Chiefs broke convention and selected a safety at the top of round one.
  • Just what Pioli/Haley mean when they talk about “character.”
  • My pick-by-pick analysis of the Chiefs seven selections and opinions on what they got done in this draft.

On the last story, here’s a hint: this was not a home run for Pioli, Haley and the Chiefs.

Look for those stories and more coming up after a few ZZZZZZZZZZs

Well done Bob. Enjoy your well deserved rest and keep us posted on the free agents. We’re not going to take care of all the needs this team has in one draft but hopefully we added some playmakers that can step up in critical moments to help us win games.

    P.S.
If you want truly insightful and knowledgeable information Bob is the man and this is the top site for the discerning fan by far. I suspect we’re not done adding to the team and probably won’t be until well into training camp. It should be an interesting year.

I’m still warming up to this draft class, but do respect Bob’s buddy Goose Gosselin’s take:

Hey Bob, you more than deserve a break from the cyberspace. Thanks very much for all the high quality coverage and info. If this site ever went away, heaven forbid, there would be a huge void that no one could fill. Rest well.

Get some rest guy. I got a feeling there will be a lot of love and hate to dispense until the regular season starts and, Bob, a lot of it will appear on this site.

The grades on this Chiefs draft are all over the place. Love to read those revues, realizing that they mean nothing, really won’t know for a few years. All I know is we seem to be a more athletic team than last year, and quicker.

    Excellent work Bob! Thanks.

    Mr. Gretz– thank’s

Two games with Rivers ,one with Payton & Schaub ,at least this even’s the chances of what would have been little hope .
Field position on return’s along with 180 degree turn around in a running game , plus Matt and a team with a positive mental attitude are in a position to have a chance to start a winning program .
    It ain’t over——– It’s just starting…
Thank’s also to Clark (Kent) the mild mannered Chief’s owner , who, a year ago got a bigger hammer and started pounding on what it takes .

Well done Bob. Take a break.

Bob, thanks for all the great work on the draft. For what it’s worth, I just read the Eagles were shocked we took McCluster with the 36th pick. They were ready to take him at No 37. They took Nate Allen instead. The grades on our draft vary greatly. Michael Mayock and Clark Judge both thought Berry and our two 2nd round picks were great picks. Pete Prisco thought Berry was picked too high and diidn’t like McCluster being picked that high. We’ll just have to wait and see.

They should have drafted a NT and LB, positions that they need people at. And why exactly do you trade more picks to jump up and get another TE? This draft didn’t make much sense after the first round.

  • April 25, 2010  - Kenny says:

I don’t understand how people can say we didn’t have a good draft so early? A few years ago the Chiefs were hailed as having the best draft of any team, but yet we have still won few games. Pioli, Weis and Crennel have won super bowls using this approach. We should have a little faith that they know what they are doing. Unless you believe it’s all the genius of belichick..

enjoy it bob while the haters love the hate on the draft…KC GOT IT DONE. You will eat your words when mccluster catches 80 some passes a year, arenas is returning punts for TD’s, Moeaki is scoring and blocking, Berry is dominating all around. Sheffield tries to make a transition to OLB. And Page is REPLACED by Kendrick.

They found players just not the ones YOU wanted or at the positions some of us felt needed to be filled.

Team Speed, and everyone will get and be better.

  • April 25, 2010  - alex k says:

oh and I forgot, they also found a potential brutal starting guard in the 3rd round….2nd best rated guard in this draft.

  • April 25, 2010  - Tim R says:

Get some well deserved rest Bob. We appreciate your efforts & analysis.

  • April 25, 2010  - alex k says:

oh right, and they are ALL guys that will never give up, and never be an off the field problem…they can ALL instantly come in and play for us…

but right, we didnt get a NT or an ILB…

expect to see 6 DB sets.

the 3rd corner is like a starter now.

Well said. McCluster and Arenas may not be true starters but they should play just about as much as the starters. McCluster as a slot receiver and Arenas as as the nickel corner and returner. Just another comment on grades for the draft. Rich Gosselin, Bob’s old NFL expert, gave the Chiefs an A+, the highest grade of any team in the draft. I think most Chiefs fan’s problem with the draft, is that they didn’t take the players they wanted them to take. The players we took are all very highly rated. The existing front seven players have to play better. Hopefully better coaching will help.

Thanks for the hard work, Bob. We appreciate it.

I’ve said it before , there’s a lot of talent already here and the Key to that door is in the coaching . From worst to may be some thing is a lot to look forward to and I think it’s there .
Just winning a Division would be huge , major huge.

I didn’t praise that draft either. When you pass over players identified as strong players at spots of serious need…and trade away Tony Gonzalez in the process, you’re not exactly going to sell many people on the idea of it being a great draft.

BobGretz has again provided top-notch draft coverage for all of us…much appreciated.
