The Right Mood
I’m oozing with confidence — and really, I don’t think you can blame me.
In a little less of four hours, something amazing happened. Due to the insecure side that constitutes an obligatory part of my nature, I began to watch the broadcast of the 2010 NFL Draft with a sense of anxiety lingering in both me and my living room.
All, because of the uncertainty.
Unable to get a good read on what Scott Pioli, Todd Haley, and the rest of the Kansas City decision-makers were about to do with the #5 pick, I unavoidably engaged in a draining dynamic. Trying to keep pace with every single possible scenario, I became one more victim of that common disease called Paralysis by Analysis, and just like that, my state of mind was filled with cloudiness.
But then, I heard Eric Berry’s name being called. And suddenly, everything became clear.
With only two words, the Chiefs solved one of their weakest links. In the process, they improved dramatically the talent level of the ball club. And as a cherry on top, they gave us a playmaker that will embody a reason to believe in the consolidation of a turnaround. In drafting Eric Berry, the Chiefs hit a winning tri-fecta.
They came through, and that gave me peace.
Needless to say, by the end of the event I had truly blocked everything that followed Roger Goodell’s announcement. I remained oblivious to the fact that the Raiders got themselves a nice linebacker in Rolando McClain. I brushed aside the image of the Chargers solving the RB issues with the recruiting of Ryan Mathews. I couldn’t care less if Josh McDaniels had already asked Tim Tebow for some inspiring words to put outside Invesco Field.
In fact, I didn’t even pay more attention to Berry’s claim that he’s “somebody who wants to win championships”. There was no need to do so. The damage was already done. I had turned the tables.
And after enduring an epiphany like that, I don’t think there’s anything more left to say.
Oh yeah, I can think of one thing – bring them on!
Couldn’t have said it any better…my feelings exactly regarding Berry. I had a pit in my stomach that we were going to take Baluga, and when I saw Berry on the phone, my wife thought I was nuts when I started yelling and clapping. Yesterday was as positive of a football move (outside of the coaches brought on)my team has made in a couple of years…today and tomorrow are only going to be gravy. Good work Enrique.
@Petey
Thanks man. It’s my pleasure.

And then some.
I’ve been a Berry fan and was hoping the Chief’s would take him at 5 … and dam they did! Woohhoo we have us a dynamic, game changer Safety. What’s even better … the picks just keep coming .. what a great draft with tremendous talent. Thank the god’s of football because we need it.
